    Night school it is then........

Fair play Dingbat, We are at opposite ends of the spectrum somewhat with regards to our responses.! :) You say the 2392 syllabus is the only course that is designed to (specifically) teach testing; I think that any lecturer should surely be able to incorporate and make time for testing on...

    Replacing an Electric Shower

I now always take off cover when quoting for shower replacement. Nothing worse than trying to make a new shower fit when entry points are different, and you are left trying to fill dodgy gaps in tiling. Bloody annoying when same brand change around their layout so much. I fitted a Creda shower...

What connection scheme to wire in bathroom mirror

James, I would chase down from the ceiling to behind where the mirror is to be sited and put in a backbox and the flex outlet you suggest. This would be the most aesthetically pleasing. If the flex outlet cannot be sited behind the mirror then I would chase 'flylead' into wall and...

Replacing old bathroom switch, fan+isolator in circuit

No probs Muel. Steve makes a good point; the pull will reverberate and sound much louder when installed. especially if all tiled walls etc and no where for the sound to be absorbed. I recall, possibly mistakenly, that you can get quieter pulls. Someone will know for sure.

    Night school it is then........

With all respects Dingbat you say you run a 2392 course...you are hardly likely to say it is pointless course are you!! The college I was at to do 2330,2381,2382,2391 said that the 2392 was for the (less than bright) sparks of this world! I hear what you are saying re jobbing sparks that...

Replacing old bathroom switch, fan+isolator in circuit

You say that L2 and L4 both have red insulation/sleeving. You also say that the LED is connected thru L2-L4. In the piccy the yellow lead seems to be connected in at one end with a red and t'other with a black.... You are correct in being concerned about the CPC (earth wire) being...

    Night school it is then........

Oh, and agree with 1john, never personally had an enquiry asking if I can do connections/testing only. Soooo, it must be true that these (im)posters are all, with no exception, LIARS!! On a more benevolent note at least some of them concern themselves greatly with technicalities and minutae.

    Night school it is then........

Haha! Very fuuny! I think that the majority of these 'I'm doing the 1st fix and sparx doing 2nd fix' posts are people who are actually planning to do all the work themselves...hence the questions...otherwise they would ring their spark to get answers to these...they always use the old excuse...

    Can you buy these?

Hard to see from piccy as a bit small and blurry! For the hassle it would involve trying to find if the self-same sized/dimension SB exists you could have repaced the whole thing thrice over mate! They dont cost much. Regards.

    Let's call a spade a manual earth-moving implement

Dont you just hate (or love!) stupid arsed writing such as this! I recall an estate agent referring to a bungalow as 'an opportunity to sample single floor living' or something similar in their sales patter..I emailed them to tell them they were noobs! If people are gonna insist on using...

    Futureproofing. Wiring for photovoltaics

The comparison between commercial market prices and private energy generation is IMO misleading Ban; it will take many yrs before PV could even get close to this, even in the very most favourable climates. The ability of the UK to generate meaningful (ie commercial) PV energy is widely...

    B&Q lighting dept

I find 12V halos rarely need changing, 240V much more. Do not personally like any of the LED lamps I have seen thus far. Personally I would opt for 12V with (decent) trannys everytime.

    Night school it is then........

I did 2391 thru local college in 2007 for around £350 (if I recall correctly!).. If you have been at it for yrs (you sound like you have!) then don't bother with 2392; waste of time and money. EDIT: 2392 generally seems completely pointless! 2391 will brush up your I&T skills, but if not...

    Heated Mirrors and dimming..

Yeah, I think I will attach it to a separate 'pneumatic' timed switch (like you get in shared passage's of flats). The panels capacity is 65W. So I make its current to be 0.3 amps. (I used P over I times V for this!). But is current the same as current rating though. I dont know whether these...

    Stairlift Removal

The RCCB has got a Stannah label on it. Think it's a standard 30Ma jobby. Not at house now, so not definate.

    Stairlift Removal

I was amending myself as you replied, after I realised it was confusing also! I was planning on removing the outgoing wires (to the RCB), and just leaving the wires going from the C.U to the FCU. No holes to block as they entered through the back of pattress. No exposed wired either...

    Stairlift Removal

Quote from myself! "The power comes from the C.Unit to a FCU and then into a RCCB. I am planning on removing the RCCB but leaving it wired to the FCU and removing it's fuse". When I say this (in bold) I mean leaving the wires from the C.U to the FCU. Not leaving the stairlift wired to the...
