Thanks for all your replies. sounds like the plumber didn't want the job so we'll see if we can find someone else who can help! We've heard that it's possible to get a combined system where you can run the solid fuel system but have an oil boiler as well which will kick in when the fuel runs...
We have recently moved into a 3 bed semi-detached Victorian property with a solid fuel boiler approx 25 yrs old. As we are often away from home for longer than 12hrs at a time this is proving impractical and we are now looking to replace it with something which will run for a little longer...
