Thanks for your help guys yes i have tried both items individually to know avail and to be honest I had hoped out of the 2 it was coincidence. Both items ar around 5 years old and are probably past there best so as you say off to the recyclers.

In the past week I have lost both my tv and dvd player and dont know why. Unplugged tv to decorate plugged it back in and no power. Turned of dvd at power last night went to turn back on this am no power. These were both attached to same power socket via a gang plug, other items still working...
