    Painting Exterior Walls in Winter

Pliolite paint is not breathable as it is oil based. I'm painting my exterior walls in winter which have been previously painted with Sandtex masonry paint (10 yrs ago) My house has no damp problems so should I be concerned that the new paint is not breathable? Cheers All.

    Eucalyptus Tree

I've now had 2 arborists come out and offer advice. The canopy is all generated from upper branches and there is no growth from mid height. The upper branches are all hanging low, which means that there is little scope of reducing height without losing the canopy. Pollarding to reduce height...

Highland Cathedral is a stunning piece by the massed pipe bands.

    Eucalyptus Tree

I have asked a tree surgeon to pop round over the w/e to consider pollarding. The canopy is quite high up so am concerned that reducing height by about 6 feet and its width may result in a lot of just bare branches. Whats not obvious from the image is that the leaf bearing branches all sprout...

    Heat pumps and noise

As this net zero policy is going to introduce additional tax on boilers, and probably ban them all together one day. Would it be prudent to buy a new boiler now and keep it boxed and await the total failure of my 10yr old Worcester Bosch boiler?

    Eucalyptus Tree

Storm Bert has now made me nervous of the tree stability. It has always been leaning towards the house, but yesterday I could see it moving quite considerably. If I decide to remove it, would the value of the wood pay for its felling by professionals? Has eucalyptus have any value? Is it a...

    Eucalyptus Tree

Hi All I am considering installing solar panels, but my south facing roof is partially shaded by my eucalyptus tree, particularly during winter when the sun is low. Is the tree the type suitable for cropping or at least reducing its height slightly? The wife hates the tree and would be happy for...

Panorama - The Smart Meter mess

Private multi storey carparks are already using technology which prevents me from using their car parks. I have to remove my roof box :)

    4 Tyres please. HOW MUCH???

Recently fitted a £65 budget tyre to a Ford Galaxy. Only local miles driven so no need for expensive performance tyres.

    Remembrance Day

I did a bus tour of the Normandy D-Day beaches and local cemeteries a couple of years ago. A bit pricey, but the knowledge of the tour guide who told us some of the emotional stories behind the names of the headstones, was well worth it.

No idea - I assumed the valve was changed with the tyre. The dash monitoring system flagged up the low pressure.

    Puncture repairs

My daughter had to replace a punctured tyre last week due to its side wall being worn down when driven with low pressure. A week after its replacement, the dashboard monitor flagged up low pressure for the same tyre. The valve had failed as the centre spindle was poking out. Fortunately I...

Kitchen counter LEDS are faulty- uniformly dim

Using a new serviceable LED, swap each one in turn until you find the one causing the voltage drop. Edit - That assumes only one LED is at fault. If 2 are at fault, the dimness should improve when one defective LED is replaced.

    Painting Exterior Walls in Winter

I hope to finish painting my render within a couple of days so hopefully will not need anything to maintain my roller/brushes.

    Painting Exterior Walls in Winter

I'm painting external pebbledashed render during January so my original post was asking for advice on the most suitable paints for application at low temp. I obviously need to avoid water based paint if it is particularly cold. Cheers

    Painting Exterior Walls in Winter

I am planning some work during Dec/Jan involving scaffolding, and taking the opportunity to touch up my exterior render. In the past I have used Sandtex masonry paint but the specs state not to apply below 8 degrees C. Is there a suitable paint for lower temperatures? How critical is the 8...

    Solar Installation

It was a neighbour who mentioned the 3Kw limit. Once I decide what system to install, I'll seek clarification from the provider.

    Solar Installation

Lots of hardware and range of options being proposed. I'm considering the following: 10 x Tiger Neo N-Type 54HL-4R- B panels - 4.4Kw - (I've suggested optimisers for all panels due to partial shading) 1 x SigenStor EC 4.0 SP Energy Controller 1 x SigenStor Battery with LED - Bat 8.0 Anyone...

    Solar Installation

I've been advised that as a domestic user, I can only export 3Kw of excess energy to the grid. If I install a 4Kw system with a 9Kw battery, how is the export regulated?
