Thanks for this Dann, I do appreciate all the points you've made. To answer your questions...
2. There is no felt beneath the slates and I can't access the roof space directly above the ceiling of the bedroom as the bedroom walls go right up to the roof (if that makes sense). There is just...
I've not decided to do anything yet, i'm just trying to get some opinions so I can work out how to tackle the problem. I've had various people come and look but not one definitive answer so I figured asking for some opinions on here was worth a shot!
I can only think that the damp on each...
They are yes. The front one is permanently redundant and I'm hoping to put a gas fire in the rear chimney one day when we can afford it, although that wont be any time soon. The rear one is where the current free standing electric fire is.
As I said, the rear one has definitely not been...
That would make sense... except that isn't a log burner. It's a free standing electric fire with a soil pipe stuck on top!
Both chimneys are blocked off.
How can you be so sure? I'm not saying it isn't. Wouldn't condensation appear all over the walls and not just in those small patches?
There's absolutely no damp patches on any other wall except that one and the 2 chimney breasts?
Hi Dann,
Thanks for the response. I've done as you suggested and updated the album with pictures of each exterior stack, and every room that has a chimney breast in it.
I've labelled each picture so you know whats what. A couple of points to note:
1. half of the rear chimney breast has...
This is the base of the rear stack in doors. The fire is an electric one with a dummy flu pipe (that i made from a down pipe!). It used to have a gas fire before we exposed the brick work and blocked up as we we kept getting dirt and soot falling down it.
This bedroom is on the second floor below the top bedroom with the damp spots. I presume it once had a fireplace which has been removed and blocked up. The room below used to be a shop so the chimney does not go down to the ground floor.
Thanks for the reply. It could be possible, I'm just not sure why it didn't show up before... Maybe the light grey paint highlights the problem more???
Is there any way to get rid of it or at least cover it up?
