We've tried it, we pumped water in to the tap for around half an hour. There was some spluttering and the water came though for about 20 secs then a thin flow again. Have tried putting thumb over tap too but no avail. Will have to call another plumber.

@Nige F sorry re-read this.we pumped it in by using a hose pipe from the cold tap in the kitchen to the bath tap.

No I don't think so the plumber didn't switch any water off
