    Raised Patio - 150cm high

Thanks. What would you recommend for drainage? Worries about water ingress and damp with the walls being built so close to and adjacent to the wall. Currently no plans for a drain just that everything is built with a slight slope away from the property. There’s an air vent at the bottom of the...

    Raised Patio - 150cm high

He’s not suggesting to use concrete lintels - just the 5 rows of bricks and then all the slabs bonded on top

    Raised Patio - 150cm high

Hi looking for some opinions, we’re building a raised patio area 5ft high as we’ve had window replaced at the back of the house replaced with sliding doors. The drop is just over 5 feet. The builder has suggested the best way to do this is, as per the picture, rows of walls - breeze blocks -...

Advice needed - laying fossil slabs

Hi - we’ve engaged a landscaper to build 2 patio areas in our back yard. one raised the other ground level. I do not believe the laying of the slabs has been done to a satisfactory standard but this is my first time having this done so any advice on what to say to the landscaper would be...

    New Front Door Gone Wrong

Update on this: I asked for an explanation in the various issues and highlighted some chips / scratches in the door. (Pics here) The company have asked if I’d like cancel the work (I haven’t paid anything up front) and start again with another supplier, to which I have agreed. As disruptive as...

    New Front Door Gone Wrong

Am I correct to insist that the door, frame and top/side panels are all showing straight with a spirit level, no matter whether the canopy/opening of my building is slightly off? I seem to have taken from this forum that their installation should be straight. The company are fairly...

    New Front Door Gone Wrong

Difficult to see from photo above however the top of the door itself is slightly lower on the left hand side. However it is plumb with the spirit level horizontally. I think that suggests that the whole frame is off plumb, correct?

    New Front Door Gone Wrong

Had the fitter round and they are now suggesting a refit and said regards the toplight that they can “pack it” to achieve a straight finish. Is this is an acceptable solution? I am glad they have agreed to a refit but concerned the result will not be good enough.

    New Front Door Gone Wrong

The frame fitted on the second occasion was a new frame. Is it strange that they used a new joiner?

The joiner is sitting off too - exactly the same as the toplight

The side panel is almost plumb level - just ever so slightly off the same way as the fan light but not quite as much

    New Front Door Gone Wrong

sorry just re measured this and 123mm / 122mm - clearly needed a coffee before trying to measure. The glass from top to bottom is almost identical in both sides to. Took a level to the top and bottom of inner bead of the fan light and both the same - running off the same way
