    A few questions...

That's why im asking. Yes, and as im planning on going to Australia for a year asap, buying a set of regs to consult for (hopefully) less than 6 weeks would be a waste of money, and wasting money is something i am trying to avoid (what with going to Australia for a year) We'll be getting...

    A few questions...

If not, we'll get somebody else there to test it. They overcharge everyone. The boss agreed with my dad when they first took on the contract that after a while they'd negotiate a lower price but now they refuse, and my dad's put a few tens of thousands pounds worth of business his way. That's...

    A few questions...

What goes around comes around - if they hadn't laid me off to start with then I wouldn't be undercutting them on a job on a big contract which I got them in the first place (never mind the fact that theyve been overcharging my dad for years).

Glad to have your blessing. Feels good taking work off a place that made you redundant.

    A few questions...

The company that tested it originally (incidentally, the company that laid me off) will be going back to re-test and certificate. My dad runs a house-letting business, this is one of the houses. I'll do the remedials for less than half the price of what they quoted.

    A few questions...

I had to give back my copy of the regs when i got laid off because it belonged to them, and haven't been able to afford to replace it since. It's pretty far down my list of things to buy because I'm planning on getting out of this country asap. I'll be able to borrow a set of meggers, that is...

    A few questions...

OK so will RCD protecting the bathroom be sufficient or will i have to get a bit of 4mm to every bit of metal in there, nice and neatly of course. And I'll check all the socket connections, hopefully one will be loose an I won't have to put a new leg in anywhere. Cheers for the help so far...

    A few questions...

Hiya. After a test & inspection on a property I've been asked to sort the remedials to get it up to scratch. Just wanted to get a couple of answers on a few of them. code:1 - 16mm main tails are fused incorrectly at 100A Would upgrading them to 25mm tails be alright or do I also need to...

Stranded lighting cable in house - does it NEED rewiring?

Didn't think that was neccessary if a test was about to be done. Also, they won't even be connected into any socket faces or the fuseboard until after the test, so if they come along and test that the cables are ok before they're even connected then why is that an issue?

Stranded lighting cable in house - does it NEED rewiring?

I'm not certifying anything - he wanted his sockets rewired because of the rubber and he says that after he gets a full test done he wants me to handle the work that needs doing to sign it off. Now it's all been boarded though it would've been a right slag to rewire the lights. And yes, he...

Stranded lighting cable in house - does it NEED rewiring?

Stranded lighting cable in house - does it NEED rewiring?

Because when we were rewiring council houses at my old company, as a general rule we would rip out stranded or rubber cables regardless of whether or not they meggered ok. "Just because it doesn't comply to 17th editions does not make it unsafe." Doesn't it have to comply to 17th...

Stranded lighting cable in house - does it NEED rewiring?

Hiya I'm working at a house rewiring the downstairs sockets (black rubber) - the ceilings are now in and the walls are ready to patch over and then I can put the sockets on. I noticed today that all the downstairs lighting is wired in stranded cable. The cable has earths and are actually...

Help! New central heating system blows timeswitch every time

Handy collection of docs, theyve been favouritised. I'm fairly sure now that it's because I'm using the wrong stat - I followed the diagram which said to take the neutral to number 2 in the stat, but on the stat I'm using the neutral goes to number 4, which is empty as the moment. Will I...

Help! New central heating system blows timeswitch every time
