    1 of lifes mysteries.

Yes I stand corrected. It’s sexier. Her birth name was Lucille Frances Ryan. Not quite got the same ring as Lucy Lawless. You get no argument from me there. As incredibly exciting as I find that proposition to be, I don’t believe it to be the case. She has been married twice, both...

    Electrics Advice (Outside)

Not at all, but if you decide to do it yourself you must notify your Council first and pay them a fee. Sorry to rain on your parade, and I am not for one minute a fan of Part P. It might be cheaper to find an electrician who is registered with a special scheme which means he will take care of...

Does kitchen wiring now need a spark?

Dunno, but I have a friend in a similar position to the OP. He got BCO approval for his self-built extension before Part P Day, but didn't start building until afterwards. He telephoned the Council in a panic because of Part P, but was told that because approval was granted before Part P Day...

Does kitchen wiring now need a spark?

Mmmm interesting. If you got BCO approval for your extension before Part P became law on 1 January 2005, around here at least the Council will not be interested in the wiring. Has you extension been signed off by the BCO? Part P does not preclude DIY electrical work, it just makes some of it...

    Post Count

I've just noticed that my post count has gone down from around 190 to 80, and other posters’ numbers have reduced. Does this mean that a whole load of posts have been lost with the recent site crash?

    part p dilemma in screwfix

The point has been made before that a lot more people are killed on the road than through faulty electrical installations, but that is no comfort to the victims of electrocution. In this example it seems two serious faults combined to seal this poor woman’s fate.

    Silent pull cord light switches?

But then the OP will have to keep buying batteries for ever and ever. No, the best option is to move your neighbour's bathroom into the garden. If your neighbours object, tell them to stop their middle-class whinging, and explain that's how things were done in the old days - dunny in an...

    Silent pull cord light switches?

I'm not sure you will ever find a silent pull cord switch, but some make more noise than others. I had a nice quiet pullcord in our bathroom for years until it failed. I replaced it with an MK version which is as noisy as hell, so avoid MK unless they’ve improved the design. I understand...

    No certificates for electrical work.

To the OP, if you come to sell your house and the question is asked, you must truthfully answer that you have had notifiable electrical work done, but have no paperwork or Council approval for it. At best the purchaser won't care given the minor nature of the work done, at worse they might ask...

    Spur from shower circuit

Yes, isn’t in the OSG? http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Book/6.3.2.htm Although not explicitly stated, I suppose the above must cover electric showers as "fixed equipment", because it would be a bad idea to put them on a ring  . I cannot however see a problem with my shower lights, or...

    Vauxhall frontera question.

Not sure, but get your head down into the foot well and have a look directly above where the brake pedal hinges, there might be a simple release-to-make switch mounted in the gubbins (technical term) which you will see activated when you press the brake.

    Does anyone know?

Yesterday I posted the word “orgasm” in UK Electrics and I think it’s made the site crash. I think b*m is OK though.
