    My quotes...

Western power....I remember them. Haven't they just took over the world. All estimates are quite brief apart from the one that didn't load. Too brief opens the door to the word"estimate".

Would this type of roof be safe to stand on (pic)

Remember this is a DIY forum not a PRO forum guys. You wouldn't want an injury on your conscience from giving advice. Scaffold or cherry-pick it, safest way.

Would this type of roof be safe to stand on (pic)

Wouldn't advise it. I would either scaffold or hire a ladder platform. 1 it can be dangerous & 2 you won't be able to get into a good position to carry out a decent finish.

Confused about roofers and trade associations

shame it is a good scheme.

Confused about roofers and trade associations

Try this scheme. Run by trading standards not some company trying to make money to have their sticker on the van. Had loads of people from it. Not sure if it's in your area yet though. But try it. http://www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk/sitepages/bwchome.aspx

    Gable end roof tiles

Extending the tiles is the best option & cap the ends with a dry verge system eliminating the need to cement, plus easier installation. If your tiles are compatible. Can you upload a photo? Just a guess but it may well be that the wall has been rendered at some point, where the tiles...

    Garage/workshop roof.

Metal sheet cladding is pretty well priced. It's a lot harder wearing/looks nicer & fairly easy to fit. You also have good range of designs & colours. Not sure of a supplier in your area but it's worth googling a supplier & getting a price. They'll also be able to advise better than Wickes.

    Garage/workshop roof.

I can second that. Not sure about the sheets though  On a serious note they are awful & supporting them is a must. Have you already purchased them as we can suggest some better alternatives.

    Opinions on re-felting job

Hmmm, seems shody. What would it have taken just to get a straight edge as-well. Takes an extra 5 mins if that. The main concern is the felt over the lead. It should definitely be under.

    Flat roof options

Shame just over 1.5m. The maximum length. An expansion joint or for it to be stepped will be required. Of course EPDM may be easier but lead will look nice and traditional. Make sure you apply a patination oil as soon as possible to the lead once it's installed to protect it.

    Views on Roof Coatings

 Think of it as more of painting your roof rather than improving it. The tiles should have a manufacturers guarantee around 40 years, painting it will void this. Also painting the roof doesn't solve any problems under the tiles i.e.rotten battens, damaged felt. They'll get called up on it...

    Plant growing on chimney

I'm going with Buddlea too. If left they will cause problems to render, pointing & bricks. They have quite tough roots. Removed and treated with Glyphosate should do it. Problem is though Buddlea is very tolerant and can grow pretty much anywhere, it only takes one seed to get up there maybe by...

Flat roof replaced- mushroom vents removed, why?

Hard to say without a picture. Was the soffit ventilation installed with the new roof or previously in place? They may not have known what they were there for or not priced for new ones so just removed them. A pic would be a great help.

    Log Burner

I looked into installing a log burner myself. Decided against it & so so glad I did. Turned out the chimney went down to 3 inches & it's on quite a large stack. They had to take a substantial large area of brickwork out. My moral of the story be careful as you can't always see what's up the...

    leaking flat roofs

This isn't a "who's dick's bigger than who's" post lol Each to there own I suppose just thought the BS meter was a bit OTT, where I'm just giving advice from what I feel is right & I've installed countless (not a dick comparison contest I know) EPDM roofs with not a single problem over years of...
