Boiler fires up but no hot water or heating

I checked the smaller tank for water and it had some water in ti but it was not full to the edge. When moving the ball valve arm it did seem to get more water in it - but then later when I went outside I realised a lot of water had come out through the overflow pipe. I scrubbed a bit on the ball...

Boiler fires up but no hot water or heating

No, how do you check that? I will check my header tank tonight. Can I assume if it is full the problem might be the pump?

Boiler fires up but no hot water or heating

agile, don't get me wrong. I am just a little scarred from previous experiences where I have felt like a mug frankly. That's all. So if you don't mind could you explain to me how the problem might be an empty header tank? I can't get my head around how it might work. By the way I always...

Boiler fires up but no hot water or heating

Thanks Wilder74. It doesn't make any unusual noises and as far as I can hear it doesn't cut off. I am not sure what your question about pipes means - can you explain, please? Many thanks

Boiler fires up but no hot water or heating

I am hoping someone here can help me. We have a fairly old Potterton boiler which suddenly stopped working at the weekend. When I say stopped working I mean it stopped producing hot water and heating, but you can clearly hear it firing up and it makes the normal noises, so I assume it does work...
