Soundproofing Party Wall & under floor

As an after thought would we be best insulating the whole downstairs suspended floor or just so much after the party wall. Don't particularly want to rip up all the floorboards as will be a nightmare of a job

Soundproofing Party Wall & under floor

This is most helpful John, thank you ever so much. We will take up a few boards downstairs to be able to see the joists and take it from there.

Soundproofing Party Wall & under floor

Sorry John I can see now what you mean. To confirm the joists run into the party wall. I am unsure if there is gaps around where the joists run into the wall which needs to be sealed to block the noise? We have already renovated the whole of downstairs so ideally need to take the floor up...

If I am looking at the party wall the joists run vertical into it.

Soundproofing Party Wall & under floor

The sounds can be heard directly from the party wall even though we have built an independent false wall Infront. I am now wondering if the sound is now coming up through the floor rather than the new sealed wall.

Soundproofing Party Wall & under floor

We have recently bought a 1930s semi-detached house which we believe has double skin party wall. However, we can hear all types of noise such as dogs barking, sneezing, television and shouting. We have already installed a soundproof system directly in front of the party wall which consists of...

    Damp Bay Window

Hi all - From taking more of the wall down the wooden frame looks solid but can see in some places the wood has started to rot. What would be the best sealer as will coat all the wood in this for durability before we insulate etc. Thanks

    Damp Bay Window

Hi John, We will be pulling all the plaster off so we can see the framework and take it from there. Probably re-strengthen the frame and add the celotex and make the wall deeper to enable a deeper window cill. Do we need to leave a gap behind the celotex? I think we will end up getting outside...

    Damp Bay Window

Hi John, Thank you for your help with this. Ideally I don't want to be touching the current framework as I believe from what I can see there is no movement and seems to be quite rigid - I don't want to disturb anything. How would you suggest strengthening the current framework? I think...

    Damp Bay Window

Do you think it's worth asking the window firm? I'm guessing they will know it was load bearing when they fitted the new windows

    Damp Bay Window

Thank you for this advice it's a great help! Yes our bay window seems to be single skin. It looks like the render which joins onto our way forming the corner has come away and we can see straight outside. I think we're more concerned how it's all held up but it's probably used reinforced timber...

    Damp Bay Window

I asked the window company and they mentioned the Frameworks supporting the bay is wooden, as what was used in the 1930's when the house was built

    Damp Bay Window

I've checked and there is air bricks at the bottom of the bay as we do have suspended floors. We've already renovated downstairs We've checked all the frames and they're all sealed and levelled correctly

    Damp Bay Window

To be honest the surveyor didn't really mention anything about it, they just mentioned to get the rendering re-pointed where it joins the brickwork and to get he guttering cleared. No there was no damp stains in the ground floor bay window ceiling or anywhere underneath. The window fitter did...

    Damp Bay Window

To be honest I haven't got a scooby doo as I wasn't there. I know behind the rendering it's a wooden frame

    Damp Bay Window

Hi All - I'm looking for advice we've recently bought a house and we have got damp on the inside of the upstairs bedroom on the bay window reveal. Previously the windows were wooden framed but we have had them replaced to UPVC. From looking inside we have noticed there doesn't seem to be...
