Cold bridge at new patio doors – sill resting on brickwork? Installer says “nothing more can be done”

My thoughts: - Re 1. - If the problem was being caused by the door installation, then the thermal signature of the left and right sides of the door would look identical. - Re 2. - The sill is getting cold from the floor. The fact that it's a thin blue line is because the front edge of the...

Cold bridge at new patio doors – sill resting on brickwork? Installer says “nothing more can be done”

I would say the low temperature is getting transmitted from your floor into the bottom of the door, and not vice versa. If it was low temperature transmission from the door to the floor, then a low temperature would be seen all the way up the glass. However, the glass quickly goes from...

Leaking Bath Shower Screen...advice needed please

It's a valid approach to attempting to solve it. I can't say whether it will work. The problem point is likely to be the last 2cm or so of the vertical rubber seal where it is meeting the bath surface, and this is leaking / not sealing. It's a bit inaccessible for getting silicone down there...

Leaking Bath Shower Screen...advice needed please

The rubber strip running vertically down the wall is probably not watertight at the bottom. It might be a slight bodge, but you could probably solve it by adding a fair bit of silicon at the bottom, between the vertical rubber strip and the mount at the bottom. Water will be running down the...

Cold bridge at new patio doors – sill resting on brickwork? Installer says “nothing more can be done”

My opinion - It's the bricks underneath the door being able to transmit the heat into the (concrete?) floor beneath the door that is causing the issue. I don't think there's that much wrong with the installation, they've put the door into the gap available. The door will not be making any...

Leaking Bath Shower Screen...advice needed please

Add pics for a better answer. If you don't want to replace the screen, then you have to come with a DIY solution to divert the water. This could involve using bits of plastic that you put in place when showering, or using silicone to block water or divert water away.

    Door advice

Well, I wouldn't call myself a drainage expert, but if you cut away an inch of the decking nearest the door, you would then have a little channel for drainage. How effective it is would depend on how close the ground/concrete underneath it is. Also, it might not look that nice and might...

    Door advice

If you look at a lot of external doors, the opening will be a couple of inches above ground level. If you look at yours, the door entrance is actually very low to the ground. So yes, the problem will be caused by rain pooling on your decking and overflowing over the door frame. Essentially...

    Tile Battens Cut Too Short

A pic would be good. Extending the battens might work as long as you can make them strong enough. You might need to use some metal bracing or similar.

Damp cause by a possible damaged roof or capped chimney

Yes I quite understand. Let's hope your agent does too. At the end of the day the house is currently substandard and it's also in the landlords best interests to fix it. If it's left, further damage will be done. You aren't being unreasonable.

Damp cause by a possible damaged roof or capped chimney

As above, either the chimney or the roof are leaking. It is without doubt an unacceptable situation. I do understand if you are renting you are worried about requesting a repair, but you are being perfectly reasonable. There's no doubt that it should be fixed immediately. It's against the...

Damp cause by a possible damaged roof or capped chimney

As it's around the chimney breast, it's likely the chimney is leaking. Could be water getting in through the chimney pots, failed pointing, or failed flashing. It could also be that the roof is leaking. If you can take a look in the attic, that might tell you more. 100% that is not...

What to ask before having solar panels installed

Presumably if it's a free system, it's not necessarily an advanced system. For instance, do you get batteries with it for energy storage? Who pays for future maintenance when it's needed? You will also need space for the equipment involved, e.g. the inverter.
