    rising main

Not overly concerned but is it a good thing for a plastic rising main to be very close (within a mm)to a central heating pipe. Just had my lead replaced with blue plastic.

Drip from the Hot Water Cylinder

Still no sign of dampness, seepage, no pools of water. Fired up the system, hot water and rads work. Nowt wrong with header tank overflows. From the top of the cylinder almost as if water dripping down the pipe that leads into the top of the cylinder. Found a mirror, no signs of damp falling...

Drip from the Hot Water Cylinder

We're getting there...valve...could this be stuck letting water thru. Forgive my ignorance. Also concerned why it was hot, when system hadn't been used awhile. Anyway electrics on, showing clock working correct time and silver box not hot anymore.

Drip from the Hot Water Cylinder

The immersion looks to be the round thing on top of the tank. Looks OK. The silver box is near the pump with two pipes running from it (heavily insulated), and has a thin type toggle ?switch in the side, which I cannot see properly. Not hot now, and has a quite thick cable running from it to...

Drip from the Hot Water Cylinder

Thanks for the reply. Green foamed tank, about ten years old, thought vaguely the hot silver box symptom might be related. I switched off the electrics for silver box to cool, then tested the hot water action..OK tho didn't have it on long, just long enough for water to get warm. Not life...

Drip from the Hot Water Cylinder

Can someone help me...there is a drip in the vicinity of the Hot Water Tank, or in the tank itself ,about every half minute. No obvious sign of water anywhere. Also the silver box was hot when I checked things out. It is a central heating system also running hot water option. Live solo and...

    Exterior shutters

Thank you Jack for the replies...yes...house is fairly airtight, have started ventilating when the heatg is not on and no residual heat lost. Mid-day I found is best, and started hanging clothes in the garage when not fully dry from the line. Gotta get organised on that. Only bathropom and...

    Exterior shutters

There is NO condensation on the inside of the double glazed windows, due to the cold from outside being excluded or limited by the exterior polystyrene slab. However the hygrometer is still reading 70 high so the condensation is still there , not however on the windows. Probably need to get a...

    Exterior shutters

I have bleed vents in the windows, but unsure as whether they are blocked or not.. And radiators, not forced air. Hope to save on the heating too , and take weekly readings . Total cost to do 4 windows facing the worst weather is £20. Gain so far is the total lack of condensation on the...

    Under floor insulation

I used battens, Allison, when doing it earlier in the year, tho I was working from the top. Tried for a grant from Energy Savings Trust, no go but things are looking up. Might be worth trying. Don't put a vacuum barrier on the cold side of your insulation.Has to be between floorboards and joists.
