    Poor tradesman

I think you have hit the nail on the head and it's as I suspect BUT all they need to do is be honest and tell the customer. Just a quick text or call to say "sorry for the delay, other jobs have taken longer than I thought. I won't be getting to you this week but am hoping I can by the end of...

    Supporting pier size/construction

Thanks.... Yeh I've seen this one but need it thicker... This is only 100. Thinking of just using two 440 x 140 x 215 padstones on their sides. So would be a full 440 x 215 x 140 Padstone then half a one to make the L... Can anyone see any issues with this?

    Poor tradesman

7k is a staged payment - it's a 40k extension. He has ordered steels. To be fair I think on my job I have paid him for all his work and he has done some more on top but he hasn't finished so can't invoice me yet. If he doesn't get ut done by Friday, I will be finishing it myself any not paying him.

    Poor tradesman

What is it with trades and being so bloody unreliable. My builder was brilliant during lockdown as I had materials for him. So I've since reccomend him to the in laws and he's a month late starting but he just isn't letting them know his timescales, never replies to texts or phone calls and has...

    Knock through

Hey all, I am just planning my knock through. I have a nearly 7 meter wall to come out at the back of my house. There will be 4 beams - two large ones @ 5.3 meters long. One of which will support the inside leaf and one the outside leaf. The inside one sits under the 1st floor joists which...

Yep, that's what the architect has said to do. Cast in place. No idea what mix to use tho.

    Supporting pier size/construction

I have emailed him back for more clarification. I was thinking I would just do the corner pier 440 x 440 which would make it two bricks but then I got looking into padstones to go on top and they only do padstones which are 440x440x215x100. So the padstones would only sit on a pier which is 1...

    Supporting pier size/construction

A reply from my architect; " Hi Paul The pier is L shaped 360 (one and a half bricks ) in two directions and 210 (one brick thick) The suggested regrades are fine ."

    Supporting pier size/construction

I ordered some "fletton" from Ridgeons a while back and they sent me some regrade bricks saying they will do the same job. Just looking at the compression strength of flettons they are 25N/mm2 which is the same as the spec for these regrade ones I've got so presume that they will indeed be...

    Supporting pier size/construction

Interesting point about blocks being used on side. No fletton are not used elsewhere and it is my opinion that this is just a copy and paste drawing note regarding the flettons. I will have to give him a call and see. Architects drawings annoy me - most seems so fluffy. I'm from an engineering...
