    Grant 26e Vortex prv

What are these like to change, please? Looking down on it, unscrewing it looks like it'll catch on the aav (which was silly-tight when replaced by an engineer). Also, if depressurised, will removal still create a 'gusher'? (This is a bungalow, so no additional 'weight on water.) The history to...

Grant Vortex 26e no hot water

Hiya pump was replaced with DAB and works fine and I was just double checking which setting to use, as engineer and DAB said one and Exedon and Grant another; so going with latter, a constant curve. I don't really understand the 'curve' bit. Does it curve as the water heats and pressure rises...

Grant Vortex 26e no hot water

Hi and no. I didn't want to start opening control panels and/or removing and inspecting the pump without a replacement. I know there's a slight chance I'll stumble across a fix, but would much rather stick a new pump on and forget all about it.

Grant Vortex 26e no hot water

Hiya and thanks I tried it again and it overheated in about three mins. Hot water flow is very good (although it's cold!) Is this the pump and is it a direct swap? I wondered if it was too powerful. dhw pump

Grant Vortex 26e no hot water

Morning and thank you. I'm told the pump's obsolete and can't speak to Wilo or Grant either as closed for Xmas... Have you a link to the pump you use, please? I'll order one.

Grant Vortex 26e no hot water

Hi and thanks for reply. I ran it for three mins and all the chromed pipes, exchanger and pump itself were cold. Top outlet at boiler was warming up, which I guess you'd expect if the boiler's ignited. Turned it off again as figured it would overheat again. I ran the hot tap for a couple of mins...

Grant Vortex 26e no hot water

Thanks for reply. I can feel the pump spinning but have read the impeller can become detached! Also that the pump's no longer available. Is there any point in having a look inside without a replacement to hand?

Grant Vortex 26e no hot water

Runs for eight mins or so from cold, but can't feel any heat to heat exchanger, then overheat cuts in and boiler starts making rude noises until it cools. Pipes at top are hot. Pump? I've seen a non return valve mentioned, but where is it and how do you test, or is it in the pump? Heating works...

    Insulation over boards

My loft is boarded down the centre, which corresponds to being above the long-ish hallway. Here it has, maybe, 50-75mm insulation under the board. Would laying a couple of rolls on top of the boarding help with heat loss? I need it boarded, so don't want to pull it up.

    Sealant type (for cars!)

No, it has an 'ear' which you press in, then you push pipe on, let off ear and it's locked - a thin plastic o-ring/seal makes the connection. They use them on the diesel circuit too. The pipe is hard plastic also.

    Sealant type (for cars!)

Don't ask why but I want to give a 'push fit' heater coolant connection on a thermostat housing a little bit of help on a Peugeot vehicle. I have silicone, Fernox Water Hawk jointing compound and silicone grease. Any thoughts on best choice? TIA!

    Hammer after changing taps

Thank you both. Problem sorted now. :)

    Hammer after changing taps

I changed the bath taps for a mixer type and stuck the old bath taps on the basin, as they suited the size of the basin better. However the hot tap if turned up creates a terrible hammering from the pipes. Cold is fine and flows much much better. I wondered if there's some carp in the tap. Are...

Radiator leak stopped on its own. How?

Yes. Leave heating off for a couple of days. Is the leak back?

Radiator leak stopped on its own. How?

It'll probably leak again when cold.
