    gloss not covring splits in wood

    I have gloss painted an old external door green and all looks fine apart from where the wood has fine splits the gloss does not cover it. I don't mind the surface splits showing but the paint will not sink into the splits. I can see the undercoat in the splits. I hope this makes sense, hard...
