Advice please - Builders overcharging after job changes? Or am I undervaluing work? Repointing/sealing.

I am running a dehumidifier in the room, under the builder's advice. To help dry out the section from the bay window ceiling to the window sill.

Advice please - Builders overcharging after job changes? Or am I undervaluing work? Repointing/sealing.

I've just checked, and a week on, since they've removed the paint to show the plaster, there are these white circles appearing (that can be wiped with finger): Also, this section, by the front door, they said doesn't need any action now (even though they did at first, and is covered in the...

Advice please - Builders overcharging after job changes? Or am I undervaluing work? Repointing/sealing.

My main concern is that as it was only 10 hours work, for 2 people, and that they've said reskimming is not needed, and would have take just as much resources and time as filling and sanding, that I've been taken for a ride. However, does the quality of their work and how much they're charging...

Advice please - Builders overcharging after job changes? Or am I undervaluing work? Repointing/sealing.

The roofer they offered to use didn't turn up, so I used a roofer I had used before. So I knew was trustworthy and reliable.

They said it wasn't rising damp, as it didn't seem to be behind the skirting. Just slightly above. Which coincided with cracks in the internal plasterwork that ran from the window sill and down the internal wall. The skirting is dry, and the wall behind it was dry.

Advice please - Builders overcharging after job changes? Or am I undervaluing work? Repointing/sealing.

On the ground floor of our 1980s ex-council terraced house, we had quite a bit of damp/water damage to the wall from the bay window ceiling to the window sill. We also had what looked like damp/water damage coming from the ground between the bay window and the main entrance to the house. This...

Exterior inside wall treated for rising damp. Scammed? 12 months until decorate?

Thank you. I have checked this, and can see there's no obvious flashing between the bay roof and the house wall. It all feels like brick/mortar. Apart from that "squidgy" bit by the wall. Another photo to show the roof meeting the wall:

@JohnD I have gone up a ladder to look at where the bay roof meets the wall, there are no obvious large cracks, however the paint on top of the bay roof, where it meets the wall is a little "squidgy" compared to the hard concrete feel of everywhere else on the bay roof. See video:

@ree , thank you. However, the postcode you give is almost 100 miles away from me. I'm in the EX32 area.

Exterior inside wall treated for rising damp. Scammed? 12 months until decorate?

I messaged him this morning asking: Could you please let me know what's being put in place to stop the source of the water that's causing the damp? The reply was: "Hi -(DPC-injection.)✅" I then replied with: Don't we need to find out where the water is coming from first? For example the...

Exterior inside wall treated for rising damp. Scammed? 12 months until decorate?

So cancel the damp proof "expert" who was coming on Friday, and find a decent general builder to take a look? I had no idea who to approach, that's why I went straight to a damp "specialist".

Exterior inside wall treated for rising damp. Scammed? 12 months until decorate?

So, you both think that the whole issue of damp in the window bay (from window sill to the ceiling), and the damp all along the internal front wall to the front door could be from the window bay? I was thinking it could be two separate issues.

I poured water from the bedroom window on to the bay ceiling, and it poured off the front two corners (as expected?).

The corner bay window damp is the vertical rectangle here, and this part of the bay window.

This is where the damp on the walls is. Below this line. And seems to be coming from the ground up.

Also, 2 pics of the top of the bay window as requested.

It's an external wall. With vents in the outside wall. The first pic is of the hallway, between sitting room and front door. The damp is coming through here too, as you can see the wallpaper is coming away from the wall and darkening. I have taken pics of outside wall and on top of window bay.

Exterior inside wall treated for rising damp. Scammed? 12 months until decorate?

It's an ex-council house, from the 80s. I'll take pictures of the outside when I get home (should be a couple of hours). I'll confirm the floor/airbricks when I get in. What kind of company should I be contacting? We're very limited in Devon. Google just brings back Rentokill and some...
