    Metal doorstep

My Mother has a ribbed metal sheet covering the top and front of her front door step (in an L shape). I wanted something similar for the back door step which is rotting away and assumed it was an item which could be bought but I can't find any such thing. I am now thinking it is just sheet metal...

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

Well I understand that a large part of the cost will be in bringing in a tower through the back of the house and erecting it so it won't be cheap. Exactly what the cost should be I have no idea though. I would consider anything under £1k I suppose.

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

Well I've spoken to three people so far and have not managed to get anyone to show any interest in undertaking the work. I'm currently doing some courses at the Builder Training Center in Waddon so maybe will ask someone there whether they know of anyone competent. Otherwise it's back to...

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

It's this bloody terraced housing in this country causes most of these problems. Thanks, doitall. Do you and Kev live together then ?

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

So it's sounding pretty unlikely I can get this done.

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

I have been looking into fixing this again (yes, still not done). I have had a plumber round today who didn't fancy the job because of the tiling issue and another I called several times seemed very unenthusiastic. It seems that it's not straightforward to plumb through the tiling and may be...

    Radiator valve size

I think I better visit my local plumber's supplier to try and sort this out as it will be easier to explain in person ! Well I tried to post an image but have not succeeded evidently. It's simply a Honeywell TRV as shown here:- http://www.inspiredheating.co.uk/acatalog/HONEYWELL_TRV.html...

    Radiator valve size

Actually, looking at the adjustable tails I don't think these would be of any use. My problem is that I need a valve with a very short radiator connection. Using one of these is not going to make the connection from the valve to the radiator shorter than it is to start with.

    Radiator valve size

They would have if I had not just finished the aforementioned flooring ! Thinking the pipes are in notches is optimistic, unfortunately. The guy that owned the house previously had most of the pipes almost completely unsupported, in line with the quality of most of his work. His profession...

    Radiator valve size

I understand the point about inserts to fit different fittings but surely this makes the vertical length too long to fit the radiator ? The Honeywell TRV supplied by Glowarm has an extremely short connector to the radiator and anything longer would require the connecting pipe to be moved...

    Radiator valve size

They do appear to be 15mm connection - the problem is I can't see valves with 15mm connections to the radiator on any supplier site. Regarding the cable slack, yes I could add an extension if it was for one socket but it is likely that every socket in the house has this problem and so I...

    Radiator valve size

We had an installation by Glowarm two years ago (disappointing quality compared to a similar job on our previous house but that's another story). I now need to remove a TRV in the box room and replace it with a normal valve head as it is in the way of the large skirting board I am about to fit...

Expansion gaps for double length rooms

That's interesting - I was hoping there was something like this to do the job. Still wondering though whether it's possible to get away without leaving the gap in between the two rooms. As mentioned, we had our old through lounge floored, with cheap laminate, and it showed no sign of expansion...

Expansion gaps for double length rooms

I am looking to floor a floorboarded through living and dining room, including hallway, and am veering towards engineered wood as it seems to be the way to go for quality but avoiding solid wood expansion/buckling problems. It seems pretty straightforward with a plywood base and then the...

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

Well it's certainly 600mm away from the window currently, just not above it. My real query was whether the stack can be extended up to the dormer room diagonally and is this a plumbing or building job ?

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

I have a dormer room with toilet and wash basin in a mid-terrace. The Saniflo macerator has stopped pumping (although it turns on) believed blocked with a babywipe and the toilet and basin cannot now be used as they overflow. I have taken the macerator out and flushed it through but presume...
