    DCV and Anti-Siphon WC inlet

Hi there - I’m about to fit a new inlet valve to bottom entry cistern. I’ll be using a FLUIDMASTER 400 Bottom Entry Fill Valve – 1/2″ Brass Shank. I’ve used these before - this is third one I’ve fitted (for myself) and I quite like them. It says ‘Anti-siphon design prevents contamination of...

150mm hole - close to the edge

Thx reply - my original post explains why. I’d need to ignore manufacturers min height of 650mm to go lower. ————————— Having read various and helpful replies - I think I have only two options 1.)Find an extractor with rear / horizontal exit so I don’t waste 200mm turning it with an elbow...

150mm hole - close to the edge

…………..‘especially if it's a vented soffit’ Ummmmmmm - that’s an interesting point; it is vented / dry vented ridge. There is no loft space - It’s a vaulted ceiling. Just depth of rafters and (even more) Celotex. Why did you find your 150mm an overkill ? Thanks replies D

    Valve Brand

Hi - does anyone recognise the brand ‘Pro-plumb’ with a set of crossed swords motif ? It’s on the handle of a PN25 15mm lever shut off valve. Thanks D

150mm hole - close to the edge

Induction hob. And no rafters / structural woodwork directly o’head. So I could poke an (insulated?) chimney up/out through roof.

150mm hole - close to the edge

It’s a combination of things - even with a modest 600mm wide extractor (that I’ve returned); internal floor height, low eaves, 650mm above hob, turning 90deg with elbow, joining elbow (male) to spigot (male) with shortest section ducting……… It all adds up and puts me two courses down from top of...

150mm hole - close to the edge

I’m guessing you mean - are BCO requirements behind me doing this. No; I’m doing this because I want to get a decent extract from kitchen area. I’ve got a ‘good brand’ but hopeless extractor now - and I want to make better job of it this time. Plus, I’ve got more glazing now and more...

150mm hole - close to the edge

‘Are bco involved’ Yes - we are using a Registered Building Control Approver I’m not getting the context of the are they involved question

150mm hole - close to the edge

One of my options - if I lose my nerve with the big ‘ole drill is an extractor fan. Has anyone any experience of using a good fan instead of a cooker hood. Not a cheapo bathroom one but a good quality 150mm centrifugal / capacity fan. The obvious thing seems to be absence of any grease filter...

150mm hole - close to the edge

Thanks for drilling tips - the OSB frame sounds a good idea. If I get the gist - consensus is that I could do it if I’m very careful. Just to recap as some have asked questions about the wall……. It’s a (new) single wall of ‘soft reds’ - I’d be coring out 160mm two courses down from top. Inside...

150mm hole - close to the edge

Hi there - thanks replies. It’s a single story extension to a bungalow - pitched roof. It’s only now the kitchen plans have come together and we know where the hob centre line is. I did think about building in a duct but I wasn’t confident enough on location. It’s a bit of a challenge - I’m...

150mm hole - close to the edge

Hi all - after a bit of advice please. I need to core out a 150mm extractor round duct (so 160ish hole). Taking floor height, hob to extractor, etc, etc into account - I’m coming close to the top of my external wall - maybe two courses down. It’s a new soft red wall that non load bearing -...

    Potterton 60E - replacing options

Thanks and noted - that is surprising. I’ll take a closer look at VALLIANT. Probably the ecoTEC plus. Thanks D

    Potterton 60E - replacing options

I think I’m going off the loft idea(s) and leaning toward simplicity of a COMBI. Maybe a VALLIANT or WEISMANN (with stainless heat exchanger) in airing cupboard after present tank comes out.

    Potterton 60E - replacing options

Thank you - that’s helpful to know that 15LPM is insufficient for a MEGAFLO. - I guess that steers me more toward a COMBI where the 15LPM is more tolerable ? - Or could I add an accumulator like a Stuart Turner Mainsboost in loft space ? Thanks D

    Potterton 60E - replacing options

Thank you Mottie - I hadn’t considered that. In my ignorance, I thought ‘System Boiler’ was just the modern phrasing but now I see ‘Heat Only’ is different again. ======================================= In light of Mottie’s post maybe I should reframe my original post questions - I guess I’m...

    Potterton 60E - replacing options

I have trusty Potterton 60E (non condensing 17.58kw) that needs relocating as does the associated feed and expansion tanks in loft. Consensus is that due to age and availability of flue parts, it’s best to replace the boiler and take opportunity to upgrade. The present system works fine...

    Oil based MASTIC; recommendations

Hello - very grateful of some advice please. I need to re-point the mastic between the concrete sections of a pre-fab (Compton) garage. My understanding is that they were installed using ‘BEVAMASTIC’ - an ‘Oil-based general purpose polymer reinforced construction sealant’. This doesn’t seem to...
