Leaving taps dripping, to prevent pipes from freezing?

Most probably the fuse in the heat exchanger; as the fuse itself is no longer available, and the exchanger itself will have to be replaced its not worth the repair bill. I'm getting a flow temp of 40C, which keeps the house at 12C. Hot water causes an error code. New boiler due in couple of...

Leaving taps dripping, to prevent pipes from freezing?

House is around 12C as mentioned, that will probably keep internal pipes ok. I have a couple of pipes in an attached garage, will most probably be above freezing in there. And then a couple of external taps that have frost covers on, but no isolation. So I'm probably going overboard by...

Leaving taps dripping, to prevent pipes from freezing?

Going to switch off the water, from external stopcock last thing at night. Draining cold water pipes is straightforward, how can I drain hot water pipes? Just open a hot tap very slightly so the boiler doesn't fire, and let the tap drain?

Leaving taps dripping, to prevent pipes from freezing?

In brief; -Will leaving a tap dripping help prevent freezing and/or a pipe bursting? - I'm leaving the hot water tap dripping in order to prevent pipes freezing, as its just a drip the boiler is not coming on. Should this be ok for boiler and pipework? - Also, if I were to turn the water off...

    Worcester vs Vaillant vs Gloworm...

Avaliability of parts, is definitely an issue to be considered. As far as I'm aware, there are no shortage of engineers to service any of the three boilers. Is there any lack of parts for any of the three companies mentioned? Like I said, there was no isse getting parts for an older Worcester...

Best way to secure this pipe?

Thanks all. The other job needed went fine, but not too happy with this one. Am getting another plumber in to sort the stoptap, he said he'd have a look at the leak. Unfortunately, the original elbow got chucked by the plumber. Turning the stoptap, the pipes slightly wobble around putting in...

Best way to secure this pipe?

Had a new flush valve fitted this year, the plumber replaced the previous elbow pipe with the flexible pipe pictured. The solid pipe isn't as secure as it once was, it has a bit of give if the tap is turned on/off. Perhaps I'm being a bit over cautious, but I'd rather secure it. Could one...

    Asbestos in ceiling

Only if its been disturbed and its hard to tell from the photo of its been disturbed. Have you had it tested yet?

    Asbestos or not?

No way you can tell from a photo.

    Asbestos or not?

No one can tell from photos. Getting it tested ASAP is the only way to go. Before we do any refurbishment, we must always consider asbestos unless the property was built after asbestos was banned. And even then, be on the cautious side. My experience is that tradesmen generally don't...

    Worcester vs Vaillant vs Gloworm...

Thank you. Good to know that they are still stocking components from 2006. How are their aftercare? I've found Worcester to be good over the phone, but a Worcester engineer was a bit on the difficult side on a new installation. Had a 'danger, do not use,' sticker on a 1 week Worcester...

Same components? A relative got 15 years out of a glowarm. Older model of course.

    Worcester vs Vaillant vs Gloworm...

How were Vaillant about the issue? Did they give the usual 'the boiler was at the end of its life, despite the same boiler lasting nearly twice as long in Germany?' Could it have been an installer issue? The Worcester 8000 seems to have a 12 year guarantee, though only if you take their...

    Worcester vs Vaillant vs Gloworm...

God forbid they build boilers like they used to; lasting over 20 years instead of ending up in a lanfill at 10-15 years. Instead of paying more for carbon reduction, perhaps we could pay less for old school boilers that cause less waste and therefore pollution. Sorry, just having a rant....

    Worcester vs Vaillant vs Gloworm...

Was a good boiler, but expensive to run compared to the newer ones. 75% efficiancy on the CDi, compared to the 94% efficiency of the 4000.

    Worcester vs Vaillant vs Gloworm...

I'm guessing there's no shortage of parts/engineers for either 3 options... Please correct if wrong. I could still get parts for the 18 year old Worcester CDi before I replaced, which anyone seemed to be able to fit. That's one reason I continued with Worcester.

Thanks. How old? Did you have to use your warranty at all?

    Worcester vs Vaillant vs Gloworm...

I realise this has been asked many times. Our previous Worcester 28CDI in our other property lasted 18 years and has been replaced with a Wrcester 4000. Eary days but so far, so good. Looking to replace a J&S combi, a couple of engineers have recommended Vaillant. Worcester is what I know...

    Asbestos in ceiling?

Get it tested. Air test also for your reassurance, stay out of there until then. Problem solved.

Johnson & Starley; chronic lack of engineers and parts.

Its actually the engineers recommended by J&S, that don't want to deal with J&S! Fair point re the heat exchanger. £700 to replace exc labour and VAT, yet can't supply a £15 fuse. Interesting re warranties. But at least with Worcester or equivalent, any local engineer can attend and parts...
