    Good riddance tobacco!

I see where you're coming from AronSearle and the point you're trying to make. Leaving out the rights and wrongs off smoking for now and just focusing on the business end. The economics of it. Cigarettes, legal or otherwise are BIG business and the UK goverment currently has a large chunk of...

    Good riddance tobacco!

That was an interesting link AronSearle From which I gather ... pick your own preferred poison and get stuck in ... it's kinder to the economy in the long run.

Now you're getting what I'm saying. None of us are perfect. In an ideal world we'd all be that health conscious we wouldn't do anything to jeopardize our health. But we do. And once the goverment start regulating and legislating one group or another where will it all end?

    Good riddance tobacco!

Hey noseall I'm not going to disagree with you ... for a change. But it's not enough to 'try your best' .. smokers might have been trying their best to give up the habit and they've still been targeted. If the anti-smoking lobby get their way (which they will) I shall be out there...

    Good riddance tobacco!

Not so. I use public transport or shanks pony. Every 17 year old is brainwashed into thinking they should have one which is why we now see three or four car or more households. If we're so concerned about kids health (in relation to tobacco) shouldn't it follow that we start to minimize...

I would so love to be standing next to you if you ever said that to the victim of a drunk driver.

    Good riddance tobacco!

Me! I enjoy having a ciggie and a cuppa. So .. presumably I'm selfish and have no consideration for other people and cost the NHS needless expense. However .. I'm trying to imagine this Utopia where smoking has been phased out. It will be .. no doubt about it. Look at opium, 200 years ago...

    Suicide.

My sister took an overdose and put herself in hospital for five days. She couldn't see a way out and told me she felt driven to it. Halfway through taking her tablets she'd crushed into fruit juice she changed her mind. Spewed some up, went to bed and then had to be taken to hospital when she...

    Suicide.

Well .. if it was my OH who did the deed I don't think I could ever forgive myself. Yet I have been so severely depressed myself (years ago) that I can see how some people might feel it's the only road out of a dark place... even to the point of them believing other people 'will understand' or...

    Suicide.

Hope this isn't going off-topic but I have to mention it. A couple down the road from me did a suicide pact. A couple with financial problems. I only saw them to say hi. Apparently he first killed his wife and left her in the bath ... and then hung himself from a beam in the garage...

Hey I say JohnD that's a little cheeky editing and lengthening your post ages after I've replied. But congratulations I couldn't have collected together a better sample of quotes. Is there going to be a poll on the best one? I think it's a tie between joinerjohn ...freedom of choice...

    Suicide.

I suppose it depends if they have a terminal illness. I think it takes great bravery to take that final step ... it's not cowardice ... but it can leave a great burden of guilt on the family or friends who are left behind. Especially if they are left confused and wondering WHY and if they...

    Good riddance tobacco!

I'm a quick learner and was only trying to compete with scenarios of gangland warfare. I thought you'd approve of a well known famous face championing your cause. and besides ... taken from Joe90's extensive list of links ... Overall, tobacco smoking is estimated to be responsible...

    Good riddance tobacco!

With all due respect some of the anti-smoking replies here are starting to sound repetitive, naive or downright ridiculous. It'd be hilarious if I was reading this thread for entertaiment value ... instead of serious discussion.

    Good riddance tobacco!

What you are doing is focusing solely on smoking and excluding any other vices and habits that are also considered unhealthy.... as well as making it sound like smokers go out recruiting innocent victims ... To answer your first question, don't be silly, but oddly, it wasn't so many years back...
