    Replacing security light

Hi I want to replace an old security light, the twin and earth goes into a bedroom and is connected to a small fuse box which is wired into a wall socket right next to it. I worked out which of the rcds I needed to switch off so that there was no power and cut off the excess cable but this...

    Electric shower (poor flow) (Ed.)

New solenoid arrived and we are back in business! Not managed to perform an autopsy yet but I don't believe it was the coil at fault since sticking a big magnet to the valve made no difference, it's as if it couldn't fully open. £18 including next day delivery is much better than replacing the...

    Electric shower (poor flow) (Ed.)

Didn't think of that and have ordered a new one now but I'll disect the old one and see what the score is. The metal inside seems to move freely once the magnet is introduced, I'm guessing it's no longer connected to what it should be but we will see

    Electric shower (poor flow) (Ed.)

Further developments, disconnected power, removed the heater and stuck a big magnet against the solenoid to open it up and expected to see high pressure coming out the other end but pretty much a trickle. I guess this proves the valve is knackered rather than the solenoid coil itself.

    Electric shower (poor flow) (Ed.)

Stripped it all down again, reassembled and again barely any water flow and no heat. After a few power cycles it came to life and I managed to get a shower out of it. Tried again today and again and next to no water flow. It's going in the bin. Are Triton crap? We've had it for 4 years

    Insulation advice

I think the damp could have just been poor air flow around the house. Since installing the piv a few days ago all of my windows are completely dry which we never had even when running a dehumidifier for 6 hours every night. No source of moisture around that area at all really, no heaters, no...

    Electric shower (poor flow) (Ed.)

Within a week though? Our last shower was in form about 10 years before we had any problems and we don't have particularly hard water here

    Insulation advice

Well we used to have a wardrobe over this bit of the floor that covers the passage way and we had to get rid as it all went mouldy. We had it pulled away from the wall a few inches but all the back was green as where some of the clothes. We've since got rid of the wardrobe and had our clothes...

Yes that's right from a water main, I've checked all isolation valves and they are fully open.

    Electric shower (poor flow) (Ed.)

Sorry forgot to include that we bought the house from him a few months back. I took the filter out last time, removed the heater, pretty much everything and reinstalled it and it was back to normal for a week.

    Insulation advice

Pulled a couple of boards up and confirmed there is nothing in the void so going to order some insulation and vapour barrier and fill from above. Couldn't see under the floor enough to tell if these joists are open to the rest of the ceiling space or not. If they are I might block it up with...

    Electric shower (poor flow) (Ed.)

Hi Everyone A bit of an odd one. Had a new Triton electric shower fitted by the landlord about 12 months ago. It always reported low pressure a bit (sort of half lit window) but operated fine unless someone run a tap or flushed toilet etc. Suddenly recently it powers on and sounds fine but...

    Insulation advice

I'm just unsure of the best option and dont want to do anything which could make things worse. The passage way is split 50/50, next doors front bedroom overhangs the entire front half and our rear bedroom overhangs the entire back half. I do have access from above if I pull up the boards and...

Thanks for the advice, it's definitely some sort of board as I can see the nail heads.

Thank you for your advice that makes sense and hopefully helps with our cold/damp issues.

Would I then need to drop the ceiling boards to be able to apply the barrier? Im no expert here as I'm sure you can tell but the barrier is that silver bubble wrap isn't it? If so I'd have no choice but to drop the boards fill the void, cover with that bubble wrap stuff and reboard?

That what I was planning on doing originally but I wasn't sure if a vapour barrier would be needed? Cheers
