I was just using HoodedClaws terminology..lol. 100 mm end bearing is a problem at the rear. Breeze block wall between living room and kitchen. Could i build a brick wall at the back and infill with concrete between the brick and the block to give it strength and sit the w lintel on top?

Thanks hotrod, I spent an hour googling that and came up with nowt! An idea how far the W type lintel should sit beyond the opening, as it is basically holding up only the clay flue and any support around it?

Hoodedclaw, How did it end up? I am doing a very similar job, but cant find the details of the W lintels you used. Anyone know what the spec and name is? I assume they are just there as extra support for the flue and flue bricks?

Thanks RonnyR, All sounds good to me now. If I wanted to open out a bit wider i will put in a larger lintel. Do you know if it is ok to cut these with ,say, an angle grinder as 1.2mtrs would be too large given the breast width?

Thanx plstering. Wicks dont do 1mtr...only 900mm or 1.2mtr according to website.

Thanks Plastering, Can you look at my picture though. The center block is higher than the ones either side which would leave a 2" gap above the lintel in the middle. What do I fill this with?

Thanks Ronny, So I should be ok with a 900 x 100mm deep x 65mm thick? Once I have removed the throat lintel what should i use below it to form the top of the opening? And what does it sit on to stop it falling? What do you mean by triangle of masonary? Cheers.

HILARIOUS merlin50. Funny enough I've already got those. Was thinking more on the lines of lintel type, do I need lintels front to back on either side etc.
