    Lighting from ring main

Just for closure..would i go ahead..probably wouldn't as it would not 'feel right' however despite the overwhelming advice to the contrary no one has been able to supply a valid (regs) reason not to which was the point of the question in the first place. Oh well at least it was thought...

Actually Breezer i would not have to isolate lights a to z as only x is a light...all the rest are sockets....just messing with you.

    Lighting from ring main

please refer to my previous post which states that this suggestion came from another..namely an nic approved manager. I could not see or find a reason within the regs that would not allow it. However would i actually do it..Ermm..Where's that cup of tea. 8)

as previously stated..if the fitting is rated for or internally fused as to protect the light fitting then i see no need for a FCU as the cable would be sized to suit the breaker and needs no further protection.

I have 2391 inspection and testing and see no relevance in your comment..sorry but i disagree..you do not need seperation of these circuits and neither do you need isolation other than that afforded by the breaker at the cu.

I would not call it bad practice if it satisfied the regs.

    Lighting from ring main

as i stated i was looking for a reg that does not allow lighting on a 2.5 without an FCU, assuming the light is rated or internally fused accordingly then i can find no problem with this? I am by the way an approved spark and am aware of the function of spurs

I guess not unless the light is fused internally ..just trying to avoid having another point on an already crowded wall. Thanks for the opinions guys (still didnt get a reg though!!)

thanks but where or what reg states this ..surlely the ring main fuse is to protect the cable and if in 2.5 then the cable is protected.

    Lighting from ring main

Hi..could someone please tell me if it is acceptable to spur off a ring main to a light in 2.5 T&E so that an FCU is not needed..Someone asked me this and i could not find a reg that conflicted? Thanks guys :D
