More help on External overflow on cistern

Final one. Had a go with 21.5mm overflow and it won't fit through either holes. Guessing it was made for lead as Hugh Jaleak said. I had the cistern in the garden over the weekend and ran a couple of tests. I got the 15mm overflow to syphon with a 1m drop before going horizontal but the...

More help on External overflow on cistern

Sorry, the hole where the outlet goes through. I'm assuming if I can get 21.5mm through then having a vertical drop wouldn't be as necessary.

More help on External overflow on cistern

Thank you everyone for all your help. I'm going for flow regulating ball valve on the outside at high level. New float valve on the inside. Overflow will be 15mm coming out of the side then a vertical drop of 1m before going out of the wall. If it still can't cope, I can drop the flow with a...

More help on External overflow on cistern

Cheers Foxhole. I would love to do that and I've found a website of someone who has done it. Let's just say I've been told no.

More help on External overflow on cistern

Cheers for the quick response oldbuffer. Its 15mm outlet pipe coming off the side of the cistern. Thats the biggest I could get to fit. Down then out would be easier than having to drill 45deg through wall! Looks like I'll also be adding a Flow limiting Isolation valve for belt and braces...

More help on External overflow on cistern

Back again. I had some great help with my last post "Adapting Well Bottom cistern flush, not replacing" but I could do with a little more help ( thought it rude to bump an old thread so here's a new one). The overflow from the cistern is 15mm running just off horizontal out of the back wall...

Adapting Well Bottom cistern flush, not replacing.

Thanks again Hugh. Every day is an education.

Adapting Well Bottom cistern flush, not replacing.

Cheers Hugh. I had slowed down the water supply to the point it took 4 minutes to fill. I must admit, when the water got above the hole of the outlet I chickened out at flushed so I didn't fully check if there was a sudden rush of water from the overflow. Because of the lack of space in the...

Adapting Well Bottom cistern flush, not replacing.

Instead of butchering the antique cistern. I'm looking at getting the external overflow to syphon. I think I understand the principle but do I need to a) Put an elbow pointing downwards on the inside of the cistern to create the siphoning or b) Put a downward bend on the other outside end of...

Adapting Well Bottom cistern flush, not replacing.

I've got a working (apart from a weep, see another post) cast iron well bottom cistern. I tested to see if the side-exit overflow pipe works and unfortunately, it is too slow to stop the water overflowing through where the flapper is hinged on the side of the tank. My question is: Can I cut the...

    Cast Iron Cistern weeping

Changing tack. I took a look and the leak appears to be right on the fold in the cast iron so I couldn't put a plate over it if I wanted to. Scrapping the plate CT1 looks like it would do the job of sealing the hole on its own from the inside. Fernox LS-X always calls itself an external...

    Cast Iron Cistern weeping

I'll try this first. Call me over-fastidious but I've timed the drips and if they slow up good, if they speed up, bad.

    Cast Iron Cistern weeping

Hello all. I've just fitted an old cast-iron bell type cistern. After being in a week it has developed a weep in the cast iron at the bottom shelf , not the bell reservoir. It's only a small weep which you can't see a hole when you wipe it dry. My plan is to use JB Waterweld to "weld" a sheet...

    High Level flush pipe straight.

Hello all. AS the title says. I've been given an old high level cistern and toilet but due to where the pot is going, I don't need the kick in the pipe to fit the cistern, I just need a straight one. Does anyone do a straight pipe or is it just a generic pipe as long as I get the right...
