Identification of hot water tank jacket/insulation

Why are you getting personal? I ask so I don't duped by companies and there are some materials that are clearly identified as asbestos/not asbestos. The difference is that there are people here who are helpful where as you are not being helpful atm.

Identification of hot water tank jacket/insulation

It's genuine. If you biopsy your lung right now you will find asbestos fibres inside of them from natural air pollution.

Identification of hot water tank jacket/insulation

There is naturally thousands of them floating around in our air and we inhale a massive load. The problem is when you inhale a sufficient dose in one sitting or prolonged over time - and this can give rise to an increase in asbestosis (similar to COPD/emphysema) and mesothelioma (cancer of the...

Identification of hot water tank jacket/insulation

Cheers Nigel. Here is a few close ups of it all peeled back. I conducted my own experiment and took a blow torch to it (live and let live). Fibreglass turns into small black bead looking things when burned and asbestos glows yellow/hot white. This did none of that. But even looking at this...

Identification of hot water tank jacket/insulation

Cheers As you can see the whole thing is shredded open and been like that for sometime. Think it is time to get rid of it. Are you confident in your ID (not asbestos)?

Identification of hot water tank jacket/insulation

It's been exposed like this for awhile now. From what I know, some materials are more likely to contain asbestos than others. I'm curious as to whether or not this is one of them (insulating jacket) and if it appears *like* fibreglass. Does it look like fibreglass to you?

Identification of hot water tank jacket/insulation

Hi, We are shaping up the home a bit and opened up the old cabinet that leads to the hot water tank (not used). One of our cats likes to wander in there and got closed in, so has shredded the damn thing. This boiler jacket could have been installed in the 60s, but likelihood is 70s to 80s. Am...

Typically, but that is usually when they are too small to be identified by eye. Whatever this is, happens to be large enough to ID by eye and doesnt display typical characteristics such as 'splaying fibres in bundles'. Fibres can be separated with asbestos but these seem to be one thick unit...

What in the name of the holy lord is this?

That's the stuff I am talking about. Asbestos is usually noticabley fibrous and in bundles - can be separated and noticed as individual hairs? I'll give the fire test ago.

What in the name of the holy lord is this?

Hi gentlemen, We've been scouting ACMs around the boiler recently and the only thing that remotely resembles an ACM is this - And whatever it is - it has been applied in the most ridiculous way possible. What function does it serve on this thing? The boiler was installed in 1986, a year after...

Asbestos in and around the fireplace?

Hi guys I have an old 1908 fireplace - but have no clue as to whether or not it has been tampered with or changed with over the years. Does anyone know common ACM's that are found in & around the fireplace? Is it likely to find it within firebrick/concrete? There is little information on HSE...

What type of plaster is this? Does it look ancient? Asbestos?

Hey, I ordered a testing kit the other day so it will confirm whether or not there is anything in the plaster. I have another question though. I know the chances of anyone here knowing is slim but worth a shot, any idea if this IS the original plaster? How do I find out apart from carbon...

What type of plaster is this? Does it look ancient? Asbestos?

Thank the heavens that this house was built in 1909. I ordered a kit so time will tell what is inside this material. Any idea as to what constitutes this material?
