12v to power a Scalextic in a field

Is there a basic calculation to determine how long a car battery would last if I can find out the power consumption of the scalextric cars at full pelt. I guess I would need to know how long is could sustain 12v at about 1 or two amps. If a car battery has 45 amp hours does that mean it...

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

That is the plan with a digital lap timer to avoid disputes... I will be in a marquee out of direct sunlight so I hope this is not an issue but it is noted! I will have gas powered soldering iron on hand for emergency repairs!

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

The cars and controllers are speced at 12v - If I am charging a 12v battery at 14.4v will I not have 14.v going in to the track or does it not work like that?

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

They will most likely be the old analogue type. I am going to have to feed the circuit in a few places - I am think parallel connections from the main entry point across the circuit to the furthest point. On the digital stuff the controller is assigned to the car but you still 12v round the...

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

I will ask wifey.....don't think I will be too popular in doing so though! Love that idea. It is a two lane track. I will see what I can come up with. Will be tricky to do so as you say but a bit of black insulation or sellotape would do the trick. Would be good to mix it up with a couple of...

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

It is quite a complex track (not entirely sure how much I have...it might be over 2 boxes worth (bought a big job lot of rusty stuff for a tenner. It has ups and downs, crossovers, tight turns ect.....not a basic layout. I see it as a cross between Suzuka and the Nurburgrung  It is set...

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

I am setting up for a charity event a big Scalextric track. This is to be used at a fair which won't have much in the way of plug points (as far as I know). My idea is to rent from HSS a generator with a 240v output and simply plug in to that. However....I don't want to run the generator the...

Repairing chipped plaster around spot lights

Hi, I am looking for some advice on repairing the ceiling around spot light fixings. In the bathroom I have spotlights but where they have been removed and refitted a few times to repair or replace them the plaster around the hole has been chipped away and it can be seen beyond the light...

    Disconnecting a Bosch Washing Machine

I closed the cold feed off to the kitchen and disconnect the isolation tap and removed that with the pipe still attached. I was then going to split the aqua stop from the tap but the delivery guy arrived and offered to do it so let him do it which didn't look too hard. It's a shame that the...

    Disconnecting a Bosch Washing Machine

Access could be better. So, I will remove the plastic tap lever, grip the valve and turn the big nut to undo but it is running out of thread! Hope there is enough to take it off. Thanks for the advice John :)

    Disconnecting a Bosch Washing Machine

I need to disconnect the in-laws washing machine for the arrival of a new one tomorrow. This box is called the Aqua Stop and somehow has a 240v supply. The big nut above it is pretty tight and can't get it to budge easily. When I turn it, it just turns the whole isolation valve round the...

How do you actually measure this cable? I put a caliper on it and it was about 4.7mm (including the sheathing - this is the wrong way I guess   )
