    Ready mix mortor for pointing

Hi, Probably a really stupid question but some of the brickwork needs repointing on my red brick 1930 semi. There aren’t many bricks that need doing so I was looking at using the ready mix stuff and a cartridge gun but I can only find the ready mix stuff in grey and not sure if this will match...

    Cracks in wall mortor

Thanks both. That was my assumption but good to get some clarity. Originally it was an archer porch and the new porch was added on which isn’t the best quality but thanks for the replies.

    Cracks in wall mortor

If the cracked mortar was repainted do you think it would reoccur? You seem like a real ‘expert’ in these things.

    Cracks in wall mortor

What’s up with the flashing pointing? I’m really happy with the work that’s been done by tradesman’s I trust and the rest of the painting looks great five years on. My question was more around whether the cracking is an issue. Thanks for the feedback but you’ve not really answered the question.

    Cracks in wall mortor

Hi, I live in a 1930s 3 bed semi and have lived here for seven years. We had a survey done when we moved in which said there had been no significant movement. However, there were some diagonal cracks on the external mortar above the porch although this seems to be an issue with all the houses...

    Lukewarm water. Conflicting plumber suggestions.

A really good plumber called today and the cartridge is knackered. We are going to replace the shower and some tiling as it’s a bit tired. Going for a bar mixer instead of existing concealed shower to make future maintenance easier. Hes capped the shower today so we have hot water at all the...

    Lukewarm water. Conflicting plumber suggestions.

Gets to temp quite quickly about 71 on boiler but definitely not that at taps. No noise sounds normal.

    Lukewarm water. Conflicting plumber suggestions.

Great, I get it. Thanks for the clear response. In that case will a replacement shower cartridge fix the issue or will we need a shower valve instead?

    Lukewarm water. Conflicting plumber suggestions.

In layman’s terms why would a faulty shower cartridge make the other taps in the house lukewarm?

Thanks, I don’t know if it makes a difference but the central heating is fine

    Lukewarm water. Conflicting plumber suggestions.

Hi, hopefully somebody can help with something that has already cost me a lot of money and still no further on. Last December our shower was making a whistling noise and only delivering lukewarm water. We got a local firm to look at it and established that it was the diverter valve on the...

Lukewarm (Tap) water (from Combi) (Ed.)

Hi, I have a Valliant ecotec pro 28 which is 11 years old and before Christmas the water was only coming through lukewarm. The heating was fine. An engineer came out and replaced the diverter valve, flow sensor and new plate to plate heat exchanger and this cost a lot of money. It was fine for...

    Moving shed during garden works

Hi, We need a new shed but we are planning on a new patio and drive way next year and the whole garden will need digging up. Can anybody tell me how easy it is to move a shed around and work around it or would it have to be dismantled and then rebuilt? Likely to be 7ft by 5ft shed, thanks.

    New patio on existing concrete

I am in the process of getting quotes for a new patio and using Indian sandstone paving. The first guy has suggested digging out all the old concrete and then new patio from scratch with sub base etc. The second guy has suggested putting new patio down onto existing concrete. This does keep it...

    Rendering 1930 bay

Hi, I am looking at getting the bay between the upstairs and downstairs bay re rerendered. This was mentioned in the survey when we bought the property six years ago but we didn’t have the funds to do it at the time so we filled and painted it. However, we have a little bit of mould on the bay...

Chemical brick clean during repointing work

Hi, I am getting the back of my house repointed after a small recent extension. The house is originally 1930 red brick semi. The pointer has recommended a chemical clean to help the brickwork blend in better. My view is that once it is repointed it will naturally blend more although may not be...
