Update is bad, damage is much worse than first thought plus the vast amount of under water root growth that has developed so it looks like it will be a total clear out and rebuild. Thanks for the patch advice. I have tried some mastic and tape to try to stem the drainage a little until work starts.

Well, I'm no electrician but being a bungalow basically built in late '70's from what I can see it is that a lot of cable appears be under the existing mineral wool with some later cables on the top.

Could I just ask another question please. Rather than using slab insulation would the foil backed rolls offer a more effective insulation barrier ? Should be much easier to get in place. Bear in mind that we are in a bungalow so room ceiling is loft floor. Thanks Brian.
