He is Canadian, not a Yank, quite different really. Also their weather can get a lot colder than ours, and we have a lot less timber cladding than they do. My Parents lived in the middle of canada some years ago, the letterbox bolts would get icicles on the inside in the winter. Also building...

Consider a radiator heated room, top of floor is at ~20C, base below ground will be at 5-15C dependant upon winter to summer, then when you run 40to 50C water through the UFH...

Wood burner bin for garden ?

Ash will dissolve the zinc, leaving the steel ungalvanised so it rusts quicker. Zinc boils at about 900C, so a hot bin will lose its zinc that way too.

Wood burner bin for garden ?

The ash is alkaline, turns hydrangeas blue if sprinkled on the soil, and does a lot of damage to rasberry bushes when sprinkled around them. Also used to be used to turn the grease in pans into soap in times gone by. It will also dissolve the zinc too.

    Shed base

you need to have a stiff enough bearer beams in the base to support the whole length of the sides, extra piers reduce the strength required in the base. Also, I used composite beams as the lowest level so that the bearer beams get a frequent chance to dry out.

    Shed base

Dependant on your soil there are alternatives. I put my log cabin on about 15 piers, using a hand auger to make 6" diameter holes to about a metre down.
