    Electrics on top of celotex

There are derating factors to take into account when running cable through insulation hence the 1.5mm which should cover it without getting too technical, I don't think there are any cross polymerisation issues with Celotex with PVC cables (unlike polystyrene) but if it's in a small length of...

    Electrics on top of celotex

I tend to opt for conduit and a round conduit box for maintenance Using 1.5mm to Feed lights and channel a small amount the celotex (depending on how thick it is) given it's not that big it's hardly going to compromise the insulation.

    Downlights vs pendants

You want Even diffused softish lighting that if you look up at when bench pressing or similar you aren't blinded by it and downlights might just shine fully into your eyes if you look at them directly. Edit - Notch above beat me to it! Something like this for instance Also in winter you might...

Partially exposed earth wire in plug

Heat shrink is a great option to use on Earth wire as once shrunk down it doesn't slide about like Sleeving does.

New fuse box needed - would it be easier to become an electrician than employ one?

If you buy something from one of the Sheds it may or may not be up to the current Regulations. If any electrician worth his salt supplies you a board it should be fit for purpose.
