Second heat source after underfloor heating

@Mr Chibs on some of the colder days it has been set to demand 21deg room temp from 6am to 10pm but the room temp never rises abovr 18deg. I don't think the timer is the issue! Once the builders left I had £3.5K worth of Karndean fitted. Given the underfloor is functioning but just short of...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

@Exedon did you ever get time to run those calcs to get a ballpark figure of what output you think I need vs what I have? I found out I've got two underfloor loops which are about 55m each apparently and flow temp has now been increased and can be anywhere from 55deg to 60deg. @muggles if only...

Second heat source after underfloor heating

I have comfort temp of 21deg and lower temp of 18deg. It's set from 630am to 1130am and 1530 to 2030 at 21deg and 18deg otherwise. When outside temps are 10deg+ target temps are reached. On colder days I ran it solid from 630am to 2030pm and it never got above 18deg.

Second heat source after underfloor heating

@snb it's a joisted floor, celotex was laid between the joists and the underfloor clipped to the insulation as per the pictures. They weren't going to screed but I asked them too, so they added a thin layer up to joist height. The builder then added 18mm chipboard. Later the Karndean fitter...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

@Exedon I've enquired of my builder and he just replies saying the installer is an expert who does major installations etc. but no, I've not seen any calculations so I assume it was eyeballed! As tempting as it to start firing out blame I can't actually see it helping to be honest. I've had it...

Second heat source after underfloor heating

@snb I have an electric fireplace in the room rated at 1500W. I had never intended to use it for heat, just it's glass box flame effect. However for the purpose of your test I could use it to see if it's enough additional output to heat the room. How long to run it to see if it makes up the...

Second heat source after underfloor heating

@snb I'm a bit confused as surely the kardean can't be laid straight onto the screed? It must need ply or something similar to fit it to? At this point the parquet karndean cost 1k to fit to the thought of ripping it up to remove some wood and relay it is quite a painful one. Interesting to...

Second heat source after underfloor heating

@snb the flow temp is currently 55° and sometimes higher, nowhere near the efficiency I'd hoped for. Over the pipes is a thin screed, chipboard, 9mm ply and Karndean. In retrospect perhaps there is too much wood but I don't know how it could have been done differently. Surface temp today is...

Second heat source after underfloor heating

My concern with the rad solution is that if I want extra heat on a given day I assume I'll have to fire up the rads in the rest of the house at the same time. I had been wondering about a log burner for some swift additional heat when required. The potential cost given what I've already spent...

Second heat source after underfloor heating

@BlueLoo yes I'm furious the experts installed it and never mentioned that this would be an issue but that's where I am now. I don't know what thickness but Celotex was installed in all walls and ceiling so doubt I can do anything there. It appears I'm stuck with adding more heat so that's...

Second heat source after underfloor heating

As mentioned in another thread we have a vaulted ceiling garage conversion with underfloor heating. The underfloor is running hot at almost 60deg flow. When it's mild outside it heats the room to a lovely 21deg but when it's cold we can't get above 18deg. It appears nothing further can be...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

Hi everyone, can I come back and revisit this. The plumber has unlocked the blending valve to allow an increase in the flow from 45deg to 55deg. This is now successfully heating the room to 21deg when it's mild outside. However this past week with cold conditions outside it seems incapable...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

@Mr Chibs yes indeed, unfortunately it all feels like issues I can't do anything about retrospectively. The potential screed situation is the most frustrating as that looks potentially well below standard amount, although difficult to judge how much from pics I have. Insulation again could...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

@SpecialK is there anyway to monitor the temp of the LVT? It feels lukewarm at best underfoot, there is chipboard and ply underneath! What do you mean the last setting on the pump? Are you referring to the LED lights? There are flow indicators at the top but are behind the wall in cavity...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

This is sounding grim! I wonder if heat loss calculations were ever done or if they just put in the standard amount of piping for a normal height ceiling. Nothing back from the builder yet. If I am short of wattage output which I've been suspicious is the case for a while, are there any...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

@Exedon the ceiling peak height is 4.2m which runs the longer length of the room, it slopes down to 2.5m on the two longer exterior walls. @SpecialK I didn't see the entire process but I did see them shovelling in the screed. I can only assume you are right as it went over the...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

@Nozzle the flow for both loops is set to maximum, the installer appears to have capped the temperature blender as it only turns to 4.5/6 which translates to about 48degrees on the flow. I've been requesting 21degrees on the room thermostat for days but it has never managed more than 19degrees...

    Operating Underfloor Heating

@Exedon based on number of pipes in the pictures and room length I estimate 200mm apart for the pipes The room is 5.3x5.65 so about 30msq External on 3sides, 5.65, 5.65 and 5.3 Two windows 2msq each French doors 4.5msq Double height vaulted ceiling with ... Dormer Window 0.6msq Two Velux...

@Exedon I found these images of the insulation and underfloor pipes being laid. Any thoughts?

    Operating Underfloor Heating

Sorry to try stop the squabbling, but for better or worse I have underfloor heating and would like to get it into a functional state if possible. The pros and cons aren't really helping at this point! Does anyone know what the red valve does in my picture does and what position it should be...
