    Light circuit question

In your photo, I can't see an earth connection to the metal chassis of the light fitting.

Remove paint from tap 40 year old tap.

If you're sure you want to do that, then try wet & dry paper. Start with something coarser and progress to finer grades. But have you considered getting a new tap?

Floating Earth on Whole House - Normal?

What do you mean by "real ground"? Are you imagining that your hand is the "real ground"? What kind of shoes are you wearing? Suggestion: bury a metal object in the ground, and pour a bucket of water over it. Now measure the voltage between that and your appliance metalwork.

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

But he has been told that "Bonding conductors shall not be looped between services unless installed as a single continuous conductor"; it's not specific about gas.

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Well apparently not.... (This is something that interests me because I also have incoming gas and water that are near each other but remote from the CU. Do we know where this "continuous conductor" idea comes from?)

Thanks for the hint, I'd never heard of those.

    Cheap Belt Sander

Has anyone bought a cheap (e.g. sub £100) mains belt sander recently? Any recommendations, or things to avoid?

The bit between worktop and wall - in a kitchen

I did an in-situ sink cutout with a regular fine wood jigsaw blade. What do others think? There are disadvantages to downcut blades, which is why they are not the default. Remember that the edge of the sink overlaps the worktop by ... maybe 15mm? So small chips are not visible. You can...

Take this as an opportunity to learn to solder. It's not difficult and doesn't need many new tools.

Line Test - account with Utility Warehouse

Update: UW have acknowledged that "there is a fault on the line". Yes, that's the sort of thing I fear.

Line Test - account with Utility Warehouse

Asking for a friend... They have a traditional copper (Openreach) phone line. Account is with Utilities Warehouse. Broadband still works but analogue phone has stopped working, no dial tone. Is there a way to do a "line test" of some sort? I recall that there might be a magic number that you...

PIR and Plasterboard over chased cables

Cables must be either more than 50mm below the surface, or they must be in the "safe zones" horizontally and vertically in line with the socket or in the corner. The issue is the horizontal part of your cable route. Will the cable be 50mm below the finished wall surface there?

    TRV at top of radiator?

In that photo, I believe the TRV head is simply being held against the radiator's unused top port. Where are you finding these images? If you are searching for "TRV at top of radiator with no pipe", because that's what you're hoping to have, then you're going to get images of TRVs at the top of...

Frustration, disappointment, money blown off the scale

It seems clear that no-one here knows enough about welding to help with your question of which bits are "essential". Maybe you could find some other forum where, for example, car mechanics hang out? Or some other trade? Maybe someone here could recommend somewhere. Regarding the whole "how much...

    Screws for metal C studs

https://www.screwfix.com/p/easydrive-phillips-bugle-self-drilling-uncollated-drywall-screws-3-5mm-x-25mm-1000-pack/25899 (I’ve used these; they do take quite a lot of force to pierce the metal.)
