Frustration, disappointment, money blown off the scale

The welder won’t be drawing 375 Amps, or anything like that much. I guess that’s the current that it delivers at a low voltage, not what it draws from the mains at 240 Volts. If this were the only issue with your purchase then we should discuss it further - but I understand the more...

    Convert internal Garage.

The "remaining garage" is presumably too small to fit a car in, right? I wonder what implications that has for the fire regulations. I guess you could still keep a motorbike full of petrol, or a jerry can, or something in there.

    TRV at top of radiator?

Here's a photo of a radiator with the TRV at the top that's not fabricated: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/radiator-sludge.653583/post-6181916 It's from another thread on this forum. Note the pipe comes out of the floor and up the side of the radiator to the TRV. I don't suggest reading...

    Insulating my ancient living room

OK, I have a question for all you lovely people. I am very clearly a long long way from doing any final decorating in this room - but there are some decisions about colours and finishes that I need to make sooner rather than later. The plan is a wooden floor of some sort, probably engineered...

Plasterboard on solid stone external wall?

How much do you spend on heating? Obviously not. Stop reading the clickbait nonsense.

Plasterboard on solid stone external wall?

Insulating solid walls in old houses is fine. Sure, you'll find stories online - "Live in a house built before 1900? Here's the one thing builders say you must never do" etc. etc. Don't read any of that, unless you're sure it is (a) not clickbait designed to make money for someone, and (b) not...

Sticking 3mm hardboard to concrete floor

Maybe, but it's only temporary. If it's a problem, add just enough blobs of adhesive (or whatever) to stop it moving. I speak as someone who would have been happy with bare concrete as a temporary floor!

Don’t stick it, just lay it down.

    Folding ruler

I'm looking for a folding ruler something like this one: I feel this ought to be easy, but I can't find one in any of the usual places. I feel as if I must be searching for the wrong term, or something. eBay searches mostly find expensive vintage items; Screwfix / Toolstation only have fancy...

    Standing desk table top

It’s only 1200 x 600 mm, right? What sort of finish would you like? I made a desk with a bamboo board, finished with hard wax oil, but that wasn’t cheap. You could use plywood, and finish with wax oil, wood stain, varnish or paint. Or you could apply a veneer of some sort...

Cracked bricks in house we just bought

It wasn’t mentioned in your survey because it is not a problem. Don’t worry about it. If you don’t like looking at it, as others have said you could replace the bricks. But honestly unless you’re very lucky you’ll end up with new bricks and new mortar that don’t perfectly match the existing...
