    base for lean to shed

I'd build the frame without a doubt. It gives it a lot more rigidity. I have a small 2' x 3' shed used to store timber scraps for the fire, and the OSB floor on that has warped and dipped between the posts its resting on. I'm not fussed as it was free and I can't go in it, but for your shed...

    BT Landline switch off

I did become very interested in it all for a while, especially the way the network was set up and operated. I even started looking up the now defunct UK Warning and Monitoring Organisation, with its network of control points and receivers for use in case of nuclear attack. I'll try our landline...

    BT Landline switch off

Yes. Don't know if they monitor the line use but it works with a voltage regulator. I don't want the socket there but I'm not allowed to move it, so that's compensation to me.

    base for lean to shed

If it were I, I'd rest the shed base on concrete fence posts or railway sleepers. Means the timber isn't sat on wet ground and as mentioned, you get good airflow underneath. The PVC idea sounds good too.

    BT Landline switch off

Master socket in bedroom wardrobe. Wardrobe is dark so artificial light is useful. Wired an LED lamp with an RJ11 plug on the end and a door-activated switched between it and the lamp. Now when the door is opened, the LED lamp lightens the cupboard. Dad used to do it when we got power cuts (we...

    BT Landline switch off

Since we switched to Virgin Media for our internet and since all of my elderly relatives have passed away, we haven't used the phone line in years. Our master socket is in our walk-in wardrobe (just a cupboard above the stairs), so I've been using the socket to power a switched lamp above the...

    Anybody breaking a Peugeot 406?

Update if anyone's interested, scrapyard had one engine in there and the part I needed had already been taken! Managed to find 3 bolts on the floor though and picked up a few other 'good to have' bits. Managed to source the main part from a salvage yard up in Northumberland, found it through a...

    Anybody breaking a Peugeot 406?

Thank you, I'll let you know. My Dad has offered to go to the local scrapyard Tuesday to check two 406s there. Ben there since Spring so hopefully they have the engines!

    Anybody breaking a Peugeot 406?

It's not actually the engine mount, but the engine support block I need -- they are two different items unfortunately. Found lots for sale in Europe, but people don't seem to be listing them separately here. As it's bolted to the engine I imagine most just keep it on there if the engine is sold.

    Anybody breaking a Peugeot 406?

Yes the support is currently useable, it's the bolt which is now almost flush with the surface of the unit making it impossible (or very difficult) for me to remove. Thanks a lot for the offer (y) If I don't manage to find one in the next day or so I may be in touch. I would only be able to...

    Wales becomes Trumpton

I don't understand that argument -- are you saying because some roads and villages are affected, that nearly all roads must be affected? The reduction needs to be more targeted. I can think of over a hundred places in Derbyshire alone where a 20mph would be wise to implement, however I can also...

    Wales becomes Trumpton

They want to do it on two classified roads near us. Parts of them were recently reduced from 40mph to 30mph, which I think was sensible, however a further reduction to 20mph is excessive. 20mph can be very appropriate for lots of areas, but a blanket enforcement on main roads carrying...

    Anybody breaking a Peugeot 406?

Bit of a desperate post here! I am on the lookout for a replacement engine support (Peugeot part number 9628311880), plus one of the bolts used to secure it to the engine (it uses a T50 torx head). This unit is the item the engine mount bracket fixes onto using three T50 torx headed bolts. For...

    Fall out from Ukraine war.

They do have a great history in engineering and technology, which is what has fueled their continued success in certain areas. They still continue to have a good name in aerospace (I only know through having family working at Rolls Royce) and Roscosmos (space programme) really is impressive...

    Fall out from Ukraine war.

All the articles I've read were unable to determine why the second missile failed to launch. For all the recent (probably deserved) stick the Russians are getting, they do have a history of excellence in some engineering fields. I'm not defending them (impossible these days anyway!) but I do...

    DIY Thermoelectric Power

That's something I wasn't aware of. A quick Google search results in something like the below, which shows an output terminal I could attach the fans to...

    DIY Thermoelectric Power

Yes I do have a stove-top mounted fan. My plan was to mount two fans on the fireplace opening wall (behind the stove, plenty of room) and have them running to push the air from around the sides of the stove. There is a wire ran at the back of the fireplace which powers some alcove shelving...

    Phone-based mapping/route-finding.

Completely agree with the second paragraph. There's no patience amongst many now, but I've just learnt to accept it -- if they want to overtake they can. I'll plan my route though, and as I've built up a good knowledge of major roads/routes I'm not just blindly following a set of instructions...

    DIY Thermoelectric Power

Nope, no idea! They're free so it's worth a shot, plus there's a good gap of about 8" behind the stove so they're not going to be too close.
