Hot water problem. Halstead Ace High

My Ace High combi boiler works ok for central heating, but the hot water has developed a problem. The water runs hot intermittantly, then cold. I also notice the hot water light never comes on. Does anyone recognise this problem and have any suggestions? Thanks, Norsey.
