    what stop tap was it? assuming by brass it was a compression? best to use a copper insert, tighten up, remove and ptfe the olive a few wraps and refit.

    we talking the internal end of the run? expanding foam is used on alot of newbuild sites, or some sand and cement ontop of insulation.

    you could report it to your local water board, they may send a letter to all your neighbours telling them they must fix the issue.They are only normally concerned and take action on 2 things, contamination and waste of water. thats assuming its not a condense pipe off a modern boiler?

    on a service what needs doing depends on the boiler, most modern dont need the heat cell to be cracked open and cleaned out every year but if its an older boiler then it should be cleaned especially if it has a cast iron hex. The manufacturers instructions should be followed, simple.

    if its build cert approved then its meets a set standard and has chemicals in that will work. you can get x100 for around 11-12 squid so i tend to use this normally, for cheaper jobs i can get plumbs own build cert approved for 3 squid a bottle.

    A scraper of some kind would do, some sand paper or wire wool to buff up before adding paint

    Bleeding the system with a combi in the loft

    just run it with the gas turned off to stop it firing up. best to fit a pressure guage and filling loop in a cupboard in living area as the juniors system pressure needs to be kept an eye on when at the top of a system as they can dry fire and damage/ripple the hex.

    A couple of thumb vents won't hurt but I'd consider converting to a sealed system.

    Worcester will cover the warranty without a problem as long as the gas supply is safe if a little undersized. Get a local GSR to service it.
