dangermouse, there's a white wire going from the pump towards the boiler and a black wire going from the 3 port towards the boiler. There doesn't seem to be a direct linking wire from the pump to the 3 port.

Thanks for your posting, Dave. I saw the installer drain the system down (pipes with water in them went out of the front door) and then he was using a spanner to (presumably) dismantle the 3 port valve body. I didn't actually go up to watch at that point. Mary Jane
