just tried another idea somone gave me which was to force water down the cold feed from the header tank. This water went around the system and back out of the breather pipe back into the header tank, so guessing no-air? Suggestion from someone might be that the gravity system might not...

thanks for the reply, I thought that the coil may be blocked (faulty cylinder or something) but have forced water (with a hose) round the coil and it flows just fine. Also checked all connections on the cylinder for blockages, nothing there...

Checked with the suppliers and the cylinder is OK. They suggested that due to the system being completely drained I may have sluge somewhere in the system that may have come from the header tank when drained. I did have some sluge in the bottom of the header tank so it sounds poissble...

it was purchased from Plumbase. Its a 900 * 450 size and they said they only do one indirect cylinder

Definately the upper one! The pipes were only modified slightly from the original position for the new cylinder.
