    Tees after pump

I think its the return from the upstairs radiators? The main boiler lines are 28mm and this is a 22mm coming up from the floorboards perhaps? Any ideas on the best technique to repair the leaking pipe? I'm thinking the system will have to be drained, perhaps using a drain on a...

    Tees after pump

Good question! I think perhaps the builders didn't allow for the socket in the cupboard under the sink.

    Tees after pump

I don't have any towel rails. There is a plinth heater in the kitchen but there is no electricity supply to the fan (heater part plumbed into heating) Wouldn't it be unusual to rig a radiator into the return line from the boiler coil? Although I admit I can't think of much else? Presumably...

    Tees after pump

Thanks for the reply. Any idea why the pipe work branches into two after this valve? Shouldn't it just go straight to the main pipe back into the boiler?

    Tees after pump

Hi all, Please see the attached sketch showing how I think my plumbing is arranged in the airing cupboard. I've a slight leak on the area circled but I'm more interested in why there is a tee after the pump with no motorised valve? The house is 2008 so fairly new. Thanks for any advice.

Hmmm. Maybe the banging is the water getting too hot because it isnt circulating? It all seems a bit strange just because a radiator has been removed.

    Vokera Linea

Hi, We have just had a downstairs radiator removed and replaced following some plastering work. I refilled and bled the system and the boiler seems to do the following on heating or hot water: Fan starts Burners ignite and start heating Then it seems that the pump tries to start A...

Old consumer unit - no rcd

Hi, I'm a bit worried that there is no rcd proptection at home (except the shower unit) There is also no isolator between the meter and consumer unit if I wanted someone to change it in future. Is it therefore sensible to get an isolator/rcd fitted on the tails between the meter and...

What is involved in removing the cutout fuse? From what I gather on here most electricians remove it when doing work on the cu?

    Anyone know what this is?

There seems to be an earth wire going to each supply cable. So how would the rating of the fuse relate to the supply capacity please?

    Anyone know what this is?

Some more photos of the earth and cutoff (I think thats what its called) Is it an 80A supply? Thanks [/img]

    Anyone know what this is?

Sorry I think I'm confusing people with the earth question. I meant the main earth wire from the cu not the earth in the 10mm shower cable.

    Anyone know what this is?

Thanks for all the replies. Definitely 60A on the label. I do have a modern 80A with RCD, but obviously I'd need to comply with part p etc etc. What size should the earth wire from the consumer unit to the earth block be? It looks small to my untrained eye?

    Anyone know what this is?

I guess bell transformer is for a door bell? The RCD has 10mm cable to a 9.5kW shower.

    Anyone know what this is?

Bell transformer? Any ideas what they are for? The mcb for the shower is 45A, is that ok? I think the whole consumer unit is only rated at 60A...... Sorry the earth wire hasnt been caught by the photo. Thought it had.

    Anyone know what this is?

See the light brown box with the vertical slots in the casing? The earth wire looks a bit puny. Is this OK? Finally is it ok to have the consumer unit on wooden blocks? Thanks

    32A mcbs protecting ring main

Thanks for the document links. So if I'm reading that correctly 2.5mm is good for 20A in the worst type of environment which is conduit in an insulated wall? Is that calculator I found too conservative then?

    32A mcbs protecting ring main

I've been playing with the calculator here Link It seems that 2.5mm² cable, depending on where it is installed could melt at 13amps. I've got 32A mcbs in my consumer unit. Should I be worried? Can you take advantage of the ring main and assume half goes each way so the mcb could be 26A...
