I think if you are to go into a trade such as this later in life ,you need to have some sort of background which is similar-takes long enough time to get established -you don,t want to be doing the courses and then asking for help. you need a plan.

As said by superplumber,if you feel you can do it -go for it -do your research,get down your local merchants and get yourself heard. Any period of time with timeserved pro is worth its weight in gold-I got a year of it and have not looked back. :)
