Shared Wall I can hear my neighbours talking

also this shared wall used to have a chimney on it but we removed it. I remember the plaster was talking about using "dot and dab" when he glued the plasterboard to the brick work. Which I think may cause issues.

Shared Wall I can hear my neighbours talking

ok thanks not sure I would be confident enough to do this my self do you have to build a stud wall or does the wooden frame attach to the existing plasterboard on the existing wall? I have a friend of a friend who I am asking too who is in the building trade.

Shared Wall I can hear my neighbours talking

Here's the updated version: I live in a 1950s mid terraced ex-council house and can clearly hear my neighbours' TV dialogue when trying to relax in my lounge. The party wall was already treated during a renovation — plasterboard and Rockwool was used — but it's clearly not sufficient. The...

    Damp Patch on wall

The other day I noticed after I had repainted my bedroom that there was a visible damp patch on the outside wall. I used an Amazon dampness meter and it's showing as wet on some areas on the wall. When I looked outside I can see it seems to be directly or very close to an air brick. When I...

    Front door Canopy Crack

So I noticed the other day that my concreate Canopy has two rather worrying cracks on it. I messaged by builder/DIY handman and he said 'they are made from reinforced concrete which looks like it’s suffering concrete cancer this is where the re-bar rusts and swells then cracks the concrete.' he...

    Screw stuck in brick

I'm not 100% what type of screw it is , just one that came in the packet and I used a rawplug. I have tried mole grips but can't get them to grip. I am using some cheap pliers now, but its hard to tell if the screw is actually turning.

    Screw stuck in brick

Yes I was thinking it might be best to drill a few hole, I have bought a a new SDS drill recently but will need to get some drill bits for it. Unless I can use standard drill bits with it? I'm not sure what type of screw it was maybe a wood screw in a rawplug. Will have another go tomorrow.

    Screw stuck in brick

I am fitting an external light outside my house. The good news is the light works. The bad news is that one of the screws (wood screw I think) is broken and stuck in its raw plug and snapped off in the wall. It's not easy to re drill a new hole. I am not sure how I am suppose to get the broken...

    Insulate roof eve

Well yes I think I will cancel it and get an independent one ...I am thinking we also had wall insulation installed as part of the governments green deal back in 2014. I think it maybe causing issues as I can see there are gaps in the brick work and even two air vents in the external walls which...

    Insulate roof eve

Ok, I will get some rockwool and push it into the eves as you suggested. Well I have moved back into the house for now. But it's not clear if they had been hanging washing inside. I do have a good extractor fan in the bathroom. The company that make that PIV system are doing a damp survey in...

    Insulate roof eve

I live in a 1950's house which does have a few damp issues upstairs in the bedrooms. Generally mold grows on the external walls in the corners and on the celling at the near this external wall. The celling slops down towards the external walls. Before anyone talks about mold prevention, I have...

    House Improvements

@Mottie I would agree the tenants and even AirBNB guests often don't open the windows enough. I have now had trickle vents installed in the two bedrooms which are often left open all the time and still the rooms get a bit of mould. Maybe I will pay to get the tickle vents installed in the...

    House Improvements

I currently own an ex 1950's council house in Reading. Me and my dad done a fully internal refurbishment on it back in 2014. It has gone up in value. I currently don't live in it and rent it out. I may consider moving back into it but it has issues. 1) Downstairs the lounge often can smell...
