hi I already have the above system working and have purchased a gsm module to install. HOwever it mentions not inserting a SIM card if AC power or battery backup are on. So i am wondering, if i turn the power off and remove the battery pack in the control panel. will i lose all my settings...

nope. Battery backup, but needs constant power - albeit its a very low current draw.
