    soil pipe

our home does not have a soil pipe the downstairs toilet connects to the lateral sewer and the bath and sinks all go into an outside drain which goes into the same sewer. Does the regulation actually say every home must have a soil pipe? I don't see it written anywhere and there seems to be a...

    old fuse box

Its not about the current rating. That is not the issue I'm concerned about. I just want to understand the reason certain appliances need to be hard wired even though theyre less than 13 amps. I can understand that ovens that draw more cannot be plugged in but thats for obvious reasons. Its...

    old fuse box

why can a washing machine or oven be plugged in then? i dont think split ACs were considered when they came up with the rules because even now in the UK AC are not common. 20-30 years ago it would have only been used in comercial premises where it would be hard wired.

    old fuse box

i added an external AC and this has opened up can of worms. Theyre saying it cant be plugged in to socket. But it cant be wired back to the fuse box since its too old. And they wont replace the fuse box without rewiring entire house. Its ridiculous

    old fuse box

The problem is the test does not take all the factors into account. The risk of fire depends on what you're plugging in. A phone charger is not going to draw enough current to cause the wires in your walls to melt is it. About 50% of the sockets in my house arent even used at all in which case...

but wouldnt the EICR test expose problems too? what if they do the test and it fails. that means you would now be on the radar and could be prosecuted. whereas if you left it as it is, nobody would bother you.

the fuse box and wiring in my house is old. If i replace the consumer box does this mean all wiring has to be done also? could the electrician do just the box and not the wiring? and in general, does wiring have to be replaced after a certain time by law?

but the building regs is a bit ambiguous as it says Ventilation of branch pipes – separate ventilation will not be needed to prevent the water seals in traps from being lost by pressures which can develop in the system if the length and slope of the branch discharge pipes do not exceed So in...
