Gas detection re water leak for parent loathe to let people in - insurance or direct?

Escalation to gas leak detection may not be required. There may be an issue an experienced plumber can spot in five minutes if he's given the space to look around.

Gas detection re water leak for parent loathe to let people in - insurance or direct?

There may well be, (and probably is) an existing internal stoptap, just no-one has looked for it yet. I think you need to organise a plumber visit with a carer present to calm your mother while the plumber goes about his business.

Single Rad half is warm only

This is very common in the world of plumbing. The word "designer" usually means "overpriced c**P" that looks flash online/in the catalogue but is actually pretty rubbish." Well-engineered or just plain bog standard is generally miles better.

    Boxing in boiler pipes

Could have been a touch neater, but any builder /carpenter/kitchen fitter who understands the need to leave ready and unobstructed access under the boiler to valves, filling loop, condensate trap and for other service and repair procedures is a jewel. The worst thing a visually perfect...

Can they write Welsh, though? Building regs in the language of the principality must be a thing of beauty....

'tank in a tank' hot water tank issue - is it broken?

Shut off cold supply to cylinder and open a hot tap and leave overnight - what happens to system pressure? * Edit: check in your documentation for the commissioning procedure "first filling" that its ok to have inner cylinder at atmospheric pressure and outer tank pressurised.

    Insert for black alcathene pipe

Looks fine to me, unlikely to give future problems. I dislike transitioning from black imperial alkathene, always seems problematic, even using Philmac universal transition couplers.

    Immersion failing

Errr... From google-fu/AI (sorry!) Mains water in England is typically neutral to slightly alkaline, generally ranging between 6.5 and 9.5 to comply with regulations. Key details regarding pH levels: Regulations: The Drinking Water Inspectorate sets the acceptable range at 6.5–9.5...
