Sofa zig zag spring clips falling to pieces

This just to alert people of the cheap plastic clips used in some sofas. Our sofa is about 5 years old and it was a fairly good make. But they used plastic clips to hold the zig zag clips and after a few years the plastic has deteriorated and the clips just snap off. I have ordered metal clips...

    Water ingress garage wall

We have water coming through the garage wall which is single brick. This is at least 40 years old. The water is running down the wall and then coming in through various mortar joints, the worst is the course with the damp course in it. There are no obvious holes in the mortar but it seems to...

    leaking toilet waste pipe

Looks like someone has put the sealant on to stop the leak. The flexible pipe has a section that goes inside the outside pipe and that is where it should seal. The inside section has rubber fins on it which seal against the inside of the outer pipe.

Which Type of Boiler / System?

It is possible to have a system boiler. You could call this a hybrid system. The system boiler is pressurised so the radiators are pressurised and the heating coil in the HW tank is pressurised. The CH small tank in the loft is no longer needed. But the HW side is not pressurised so still runs...

    Replacing a Potterton Kingfisher 2 CF100 - 2025

Hi Drec, did you proceed with replacing the Potterton Kingfisher 2 ? How did it go. We have a Kingfisher 2RS 80 - that is a balanced flue out of the wall. It was installed new in 1997. I am also thinking of having our replaced. The flue and condensate drain are no problem. My consideration is...

Can you move the top knob to the middle and not bother with the rain shower as a temp measure ?

Radiator not working re-fitted after plastering.

Turn off some of the other radiators to increase pressure to the faulty one - this may clear the problem then you can restore things back to normal.

    Shower Problem

Is it in fact a power shower i.e. a shower pump ? This type need a bit of water flow to start the pump so you opening a tap causes a shock wave in the pipe causing the pump to start. You need to check why there is not enough flow to trip the switch to start the pump. Isolating valve not fully...

Will changing 15mm to 22mm increase flow rate?

If there is a problem i.e. combi boiler shower output is effected by a cold tap being opened elsewhere then it may be worth it.

    Help needed with garage electrics

Surely , it depends on the size of cable already installed for the EV charger ? If there is spare capacity then you can T off it for a garage CU. Or put a larger CU on the end of the existing cable with positions for the EV charger, power sockets and lighting circuits.

Mixer Shower from 22mm Bath Pipes

Please give details of your hot and cold system. Are they both from a tank or do you have a combi boiler or some other system ? A traditional boiler would have a hot water cylinder etc

    Obsolete gas valve

You need to look for the sticker on the valve itself to get the original manufacturer's part number.

Manrose fan - Motion sensor ?

One solution is to use a timer fan with live supply (as normal) but use a separate "momentary" pull switch to trigger it (Instead of the light switch). The momentary pull switch only provides a live when being pulled but switches off when released. This triggers the timer fan which then runs...

Installing extractor fan in bathroom xpelair cf20tx

We found the outside humidity (raining) set the fan going as the fan was on an outside wall so short duct. Increased the humidity setting but then it didn't come on quickly enough during shower. So we just use the timer mode.

    Cracked soil pipe

If you are very patient you could cut the elbow off without touching the pipe inside and then sandpaper the pipe ready for a new elbow. There may be a way to un-weld the glue ?

What do you think? New boiler required

These days you have to declare things when selling a house and provide a gas safe certificate : you could get a second opinion but looks like a new boiler to me. 18 years is pretty good for modern boilers as they are more complex.

    Obsolete gas valve

Look around eBay etc - there are some "new" old stock gas valves around. Some people bought a spare and never needed it ! Check the part numbers and photos. PS Is that the manufacturer part number ? Should have a bit more detail manufacturer's name etc,
