Cheers nigeld - had to take the machine apart because the pump cap had seized (due to the offending item) but all sorted now. Suppose I should have checked that before asking my question but you live and learn - thanx again.

Machine stopped mid-cycle. Now, every time the 'start' button is pressed (regardless of setting), there's an almighty rattle type noise and nothing happens. Unable to drain, unable to spin etc (although drum does rotate). Does anyone have any ideas ??
