    screeding and French doors

Hi Blagard, sorry edited my post as you were writing, The new concrete will be approximately 30-35mm deep and 1 brick width. too thin? the dpc is right underneath the high brick so removing another course will be a right pita. I hear what you say about a more solid bridge....slate?

    Brick identification

yep, that's the closest I've seen yet :D It's the black flecks/spots that have thrown me, they are really prominent on a lot of bricks but none on others! I first thought it was a kind of road tar or mould, thanks tony that's a great start for me!👍

    Brick identification

Hi, I'm looking to order the bricks very soon, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me identify these bricks so I can match them, I understand there are brick matching services but I'd prefer many peoples views as well as the builders merchants! Besides they are all closed today. £5 to...

    Loft brick identification

Hi all, I've been reading about how to install loft steels for a loft conversion, I have read that sometimes it's not possible due to the construction of the party wall itself. Could you kind folk identify the bricks in this picture and tell me if they are good enough to build a loft...

    Velux coversion plans

Hi tony, yes it's without a dorma, that's a great idea about the load bearing walls below, I'll put that into the drawing. Other then that are there any glaring mistakes?

    Velux coversion plans

Thought I'd better add that the front bathroom will be smaller to allow for the positioning of the new staircase.. It's not ideal but it will be a shower room to service two bedrooms only. So I believe it will be big enough (1.5x2.5m) Thanks

    Velux coversion plans

Hi all, I was hoping some of you would be able to have a look at these two plans, the first is my newly agreed plan of the first floor, which I'm very happy with, it has a full height 3.5m x 6.6m extension to the side which I'm due to start fairly soon. Story....... At the very...

    Heating options

Luckily I have budgeted for skilled tradesmen, I'm just wondering if people think I'd be better off with an air source heat pump over a standard combi boiler, or LPG to heat the house. and which are easier to and essentially which are cheaper to install for the plumber? It is effectively a...

    Heating options

Thanks for the reply! Definitely not scrimping on anything, just looking into all options and costings involved. Regarding your dislike of the word "cheap", is this not a DIY forum?.....

    Heating options

Hi, I am just weighing up my options for heating a standard 3 bed 1930's semi. At the moment it has no central heating at all and a small wood burner in the lounge. When the extension is finished it will have upstairs; 4 beds (1 in the loft) 2 ensuite shower rooms (1 in the loft) 1...

    Terracing rules

Oh ok, that's interesting, I didn't actually think of the extra financial implications of adding the subservient over a seamless, I think I need to book in with the architect and get some of his views.

    Terracing rules

At last someone who agrees with me! I've had this conversation a few times, and I'm of the same same opinion as you, we are the only semi in the road of 8 houses, all the others are big detached ones, and opposite are nothing but fields. So I think we have a good case to put forward...
