I think you’re letting this get overly complicated. Don’t worry about the 20c drop across a radiator as no one gets that anymore. Are you using TRV’s on the radiators, if so that messes up the radiator temp drop as well so just ensure the radiators are balanced and let the TRV’s do their thing.

There are ems to open therm converters available but their compatibility with your particular boiler would need checking.

Have you thought about temporarily replacing the ABV with a gate valve. You could then run all your tests with the gate valve closed but still be able to open it if the boiler complains.

Any reason why you are repiping as an s-plan system rather than PDHW. With all the work you are doing now seems like a good time to replace the boiler with a pressurised system boiler that supports PDHW.

If the pump surges and fuses the switch in Tado then why doesn’t it fuse the switch in the motorised valve?

I thought the Tado sent a switched live to a motorised valve which then opens and sends a switched live to the boiler and pump. If so how will the relay help?

I have experienced with these types of smart thermostats that setting the setback temp no more than 2c below set temp is more comfortable and ensures a reasonable heat up time.

That’s not the only downside, it’s also emitting more CO2, costing more in gas, adding extra wear to components and shortening their life.

This only happens if "comfort mode" is turned on. IME it doesnt work very well if the room temperature drops more than a couple of degrees below the next set temperature.

I would set both TRV's to max and if the "room" without the wall thermostat overheatst then turn the lockshield on its radiator down a touch.
